Somewhere on the mainboard you should find a small backup battery the same as on your computer. On a computer, it is a CR2032, but on specialist items like tuners, it may be a small odd shaped battery that is glued down with double sided tape and soldered. The only way to check is to remove the case and look. Your service manual is here and it does have a circuit diagram, but the text is too tiny for me to read. You may be able to print it and see better.

I FOUNG THIS WEB SITE that I think will help you with this question and a lot more. Since this web site will have access to many different vehicles I hope you do not feel like I am lazy by just passing along the web site instead of giving you the exact information you asked for.

Go to this site to find a manual to help you.

If the output is fused, check for popped fuses. The output transistors could have failed, but most likely the preamps are not sending the signal to the output stages

This is the audio equivalent of video pixilation. It is caused by interruptions of the signal stream in the digital audio circuitry. And yes, it is hard if not impossible to diagnose. It is easier/cheaper to replace the failed unit than fixing it.
