Your Acoustimass 5 is a powered sub with powered surround speakers. If you are not getting sound output, the internal fuse may be open and you will have to replace it. Bose used a heavy multiple output cable terminated in a miniature DIN plug to connect speakers. You may be able to find one on eBay.

Surly you can connect these speakers to any receiver. It has an active subwoofer and 5 passive cube speakers. It can handle power up to 150W.

How are you connecting the sytem to your PC? are using an RCA cable (red and white connectors) from you computer to the system?

Verify that all speakers are wired with the proper polarity and that they are making good contact, then verify that the speakers are receiving a signal with a multimeter, and check the impedance of the speaker as well to make sure they are not blown.

Unfortunately it has to be used with another Bose system. Luckily you can buy the main unit separately from people on ebay such as this one:

This is not so much my expertise, but i wouldn't say that is is a through away. I had a dvd player which did exactly the same, but my warranty was just over, so i had a look at it and found that if you follow the power line on the circuit to the channels of your speakers(You can easily find it) you can check if the left channel's capacitor seem to be broken(You can usually see it) and then just replace it. Otherwise it could just as easily be a one of the ic's that broke(You can see this easily). I would not through it away, just take it to any electronic repair shop close to you, if your problem is what i mentioned it would not be expensive at all to fix>

Hope this can help you.

no it can not. the sound card in your computer has no power behind it, only a signal. the acoustimass needs power from an amp. you can connect your computer to a home theater reciever and get what you are trying to do, with a simple 3.5 to rca cable.

take it back for refund or exchange without delay. Too many times, there are cases of faulty factory assembly. Most likely a poorly connected wire inside sub, which fell off after a few booms.

Those are usually hermetically sealed. You will damage the housing if you try to replace it..
