Try cleaning the DVD drive head with a suitable disc cleaner.

Check on the origin of the DVD's that cannot be read, in case there is a common factor.

Word and Excel come with Microsoft Office ,not with windows 7 ,Windows 7 is pre-installed operating system ,on the other hand Microsoft Office is optional .in most cases you only get 60 day trial version and may have expired

CARD READER WILL NOT READ

Most likely a problem with the card. They tend to corrupt easy enough. Try formatting the card.

Dell 745 - only gets sound from speakers

Onboard sound does not need drivers. The little speaker is attached to the motherboard directly or by wires plugged into the motherboard. You need to check to see which speaker you have. Once you have found out, be sure that, if it has wires attached to it, that they are plugged in.

With your Dell computer's "Tag" number, visit their support website and enter that number to bring up your machine; from there you should be able to find/download your drivers.

The disk is most likely no good anymore get another one from the factory for your computer or buy an operating system disk for your computer and go from there. I'm assuming this the disk you are speaking of. The question was kinda of vague was not sure what you meant. John

Sounds like your on Google Chrome, this has started popping up since the last update and only on secure webpages at random, try running Windows Update and make sure it's up to date, it check the root certificates which should come with the windows updates.

Dell Optiplex 960 SFF PC wiring pins for the PSU to the Motherboard

ok 960 SFF is not the same as MT or the big case MOBO.
SFF has its own mobo (motherboards)
it has 11x2 row non ATX spec, power . not yours as it has 12x2 some SFF have 2 diffr. mobo
and a dell custom PSU for just this mobo and its odd duck jack. (called PICO plug)
why not buy a new PSU? that matches this PC?
even the SFF PSU case is not ATX spec.

I plugged in the green jack into the green socket,the dell acknowledges the audio device but no sound.

Go into device manager. Uninstall audio driver.

Restart computer.

This will reinstall the default driver. Try again.

If it doesn't work, go to Dell website to find specific driver for your computer (using the service tag) and install that.

I have forgotten my bios password

Desktops PCs usually have a 'jumper' on the motherboard, inside of the PC, that resets the BIOS, removing the password but also changing some settings to their defaults. It takes some 'know how' but you can google it to help you locate it.

Replace dvd rom

CD/DVD reader/wroters are 'generic' parts, so any that the right size (5 1/4" or 'slim-line') with the right connector (IDE or SATA) should work OK. If in doubt, just buy from Dell (at their rip-off 'spare part' prices)

To get the Optiplex case open, look on the Dell web site for the 'service manual' ..

Want to boot as usb bootable

During power on, you should see a message like 'Select boot device' or 'Set boot order' or some such .. typically you press F12 ...

Alternative you can set a 'permenant' boot order in the BIOS (press F2 during power-up, as I recall)
