Hello there Angela,

You can just reset your ipod shuffle in this case.

Hold your ipod facing its back. Now, adjust the switch on the back of iPod shuffle to the OFF so you wont be seeing the green color. Then wait for 5 seconds. Then adjust back the switch to play. Then try again if this fixed the problem.

Never discount the possibility of a simple poor electrical connection (or a busted usb plug on the shuffle - you didnt yank at it, did you?)

Try to swab out the inside of the usb plug on the shuffle.. 99% rubbing alchohol is best. A qtip might fit, if squashed a bit

I charge mine with the USB connector that came with the pod.
You put the connection first in the iPOD then youconnect it to one of the"holes" in you computer for USB.
An icon will probably appearmonthe bottom lineand say that a new hardwere had been found, then the cp will ask you what you wanr his piece of hardware to do you clik on the nothing icon.
Before you disconnect the USB you clik on the new hardware,. there it tells you if it is OK to disconnect. The computer mustbeon when this done. I can also charge my cell phone this way. Which when I have got myself a microUSB cable.

Try to do a reset.

Reattached the ipod from the computer’s usb port. Next adjust the switch on the back of iPod shuffle to the OFF. Take note that the green stripe by the switch is not visible when iPod shuffle is off. Then wait for 5 to 8 seconds. Next move the switch on the back to the play in order or the shuffle position. The green stripe will be visible in either position.

Use iPod Reset Utility to restore the following iPod models back to their factory settings when iTunes is unable to do so. The process completely erases all music and data and reinstalls the iPod software version listed below:
  • iPod shuffle (1st generation) - iPod Software version 1.1.5
  • iPod shuffle (2nd generation) - iPod Software version 1.0.4
download here
then install..
follow these instructions..
Using iPod Reset Utility
  1. Quit all running applications on your computer.
  2. Open iPod Reset Utility.
  3. Connect iPod to a USB port on your computer. Do not connect iPod to a USB port on your keyboard, or other non-powered USB hub.
  4. Click the Reset button.
  5. If prompted, enter an administrator name and password. Notice: Do not disconnect iPod during the reset process.
  6. When complete, quit iPod Reset Utility and open iTunes to load music onto iPod.

This happens some times the computer has lost the record that the ipod was synced with this computer.

Because the ipod can only be synced with one computer at a time your are getting this message.

if you look in your itunes music library and all the muisc is still there then choose the "erase and sync option" this will erase the ipod and re- sync with this computer -

if your muisc is gone you have a much larger problem you need to search your computer for your missing music then add it back to itune when you find it by :

In itunes you go to the upper left to : File > add Folder to Library > and choose the folder the music is in this will re- add your music to the libray then you can " "erase and sync"

If all you music is gone off your computer a only on your ipod your going to have to download a free ipod rip program to remove all you muisc and put it back into your library. there are free ones you can downalod but they are hard to find I have used www.ipodrescue.com and it worked for me

good luck !

When you initially set up your ipod on one computer and then plug it into a different one, it will ask you if you wish to sync the songs with the new computer.

If you wish to manually drop and drag songs, you can do this as well and it will ask you if you want to use your ipod like a disk (like a flash drive.)

My suggestion is to import all of your songs you want on your home computer. You can drag songs from your "Library" to your ipod, simply select and drag them to the ipod icon.

If you want to charge your ipod at work just plug it in, don't click anything and then eject it. Or click import songs manually.
