Here's and excerpt from the Netgear WNR2000 user manual explaining that this is normal behavior for Netgear routers that support WPS..:
  • Keep Existing Wireless Settings. This check box is automatically selected after WPS is enabled to prevent unwanted settings changes, and is also selected if you have already specified wireless security settings or your SSID without using WPS. When this check box is not selected, adding a new wireless client using the push button or the Add WPS Client screen (see "Push Button Configuration" on page 2-14) changes the router's SSID and security passphrase. You might need to clear it if you are using certain registrars, such as for a Windows Vista PC, to configure the router through WPS.
Even if your router is not a WNR2000, it is likely that the configuration interface pretty much the same so you might be helped by looking at Chapter 2 page 17 in the WNR2000 manual here..:
Or else, go to Netgear support (NETGEAR Support Welcome), select Wi-Fi routers and download/display the user manual pdf and search it for "disable router's pin" or "keep existing wireless settings" and verify/change the setting so the router doesn't make changes when you use the WPS button.

I would go to Netgear's website and follow the instructions.
The pin is normally on the label with the serial number.

Change your password security type from wpa to wep from router wifi device settings.

this may be a bit technical ,but stay with me , the address your trying to access is in a different subnet (security reason) the machine your using to access this router has to be in a Ip range of
to it will not be able to "see" the device this address is typically used for router config as its not a common used number and so it's unlikely to have any conflicts, however after you config the router , both it and the machines on its network should be set to something in the range of to as this is a more typical range of numbers to use on a small network and should help to eliminate any future config problems as new devices are added in the future

If this is a wireless router, your chrome cast device should pick up the signal if within reach. Make sure there is power to the chrome cast. Be sure the router is emitting Wi-Fi signal (test with a tablet or smart phone to make sure). Power cycle both devices (turn off-unplug-wait five minutes-reconnect and switch on) then attempt connection once again.

What On?

NetGear... | Answered on Nov 30, 2015

Yes! There should be a switch on the top of the router that allows you to turn on/off the wireless feature. A corresponding LED will indicate when it is lit that the wireless is active and when off that the wireless feature is off.

Why the need for firmware upgrade?

The power light is green, it is working, the problem lies with your internet connection.
1. Check the cabling.

3. Check with your ISP as to what the problem is.
