Hi,
This issue can be resolved by reseting the router. You might see a reset password option on the back side of the router.
Please reset the router by placing a pin in reset hole and push the pin slightly, (remember you need to do this when the router is in ON state)
Then connect your router to your computer using Ethernet port (this is for configuration) and also connect the ADSL cable.

now open internet explorer and type in //192.168.1.1
Then it will prompt you for user name and password
Username: admin
Passsword: password
this username and password is by default.

Hi!
Good question. But it will not really affect how the modem works if you will use a dedicated power strip.
It could be the connection outside or the hardware itself that you are having issues with, power outages may damage the power supply of the modem itself.
Have it replaced with a different model from your Internet Service Provider.
Hope this helps.Cheers!

From the back of your modem, follow the ethernet cable to your PC (in). Mark or remember this location. Remove this cable from the PC and insert it into the INTERNET port on your router. Then take another ethernet cable (usually supplied) and insert one end into the ETHERNET port of the router, and the other end into your PC (where you originally removed it. Remember to check all connections and plug in the modem. You should now be good to go! If your PC has an installation Wizard, you can browse thru it as well.

There is nothing wrong with your modem. Comcast charges extra for a second line. Depending on your model of fax machine, there should be both an input ond an output on the back of the fax machine. Plug the fax machine into line 1 on the modem. Then, plug your phone into the input on the back of the fax machine. If you fax does not have both in and out, then you can purchase a "Y" phone line adapter from your local electronics store.

ps. VoIP is a digital line... Facsimiles are analog signals... Sending analog signals over digital lines is not recomended. If you are wondering "why?" (and understand tech jargon) VoIP is sent via UDP, which is a connectionless protocol (does not retransmit dropped packets) Fax machines use TCP, which does resend dropped packets. This variance in Qualiy of Service sometimes cases strange activity such as both lines (sending and receiving) dropping connections, faxes taking a long time to transmit (due to constant resending loops), etc. It does work... kind of. I would just not assume that faxes made it to their destination until it gets confirmed.

If your Internet Cable Provider allows it,you will need :

1. Crossover-wired, or "null," category 5 Ethernet cable for the cable modem to be connected.
2. 10BaseT or 100BaseT Hub or Switch.
3. Straight through, or standard, category 5 Ethernet cable (one for each computer to be connected).

Be sure to check with your Internet Provider first.

Hey!

This might sound like the "easy way out", but years of bad experience with this devicehad tought me that in this case - the only solution is to have the modem replaced. If possible, ask for a different modem model!

In case of a problem or clarification, don't hesitate to post me a reply before rejecting my answer.
If you are satisfied, rate my solution with the "thumbs" or (even better) add a testimonial.

Best regards,

hi, rmoriconi
pay no attention to people that tells you that that switch turns your wireless on and off..you do not have a wireless modem

all it does is block your incoming and outgoing internet service, its a security feature and thats it

(your modem is not wireless, if it is, its the first wireless modem i have ever seen)...
