TRY POURING IN SOME WHITE DISTILLED VINEGAR AND RUNNING IT. THE VINEGAR LOOSEN UP ANY SCALE AND JUNK. AFTER RUNNING UNIT FOR AWHILE, DRAIN OUT ANY REMAINING LIQUID AND ADD DISTILLED WATER OR FILTERED WATER. RUN UNIT AGAIN. THEN DRAIN OUT ANY LIQUID. NOW THE UNIT SHOULD WORK AS NORMAL. IN THE FUTURE, TRY USING DISTILLED WATER OR FILTERED WATER.

If it is on a flat level surface, you probably have a leak. You could probably put it on some paper/paper-towel/etc to see where it is coming from. I cannot suggest if or how you'd want to fix a leak. Maybe time for another unit.

Myself, I'd probably try to fix a leak if it was just the casing (super glue, epoxy, glue gun, etc.) Definitly wouldn't try if it is leaking into the electronic/wiring part of the unit.

If your air is very dusty, it is looking for anything to attach to. Water vapor is an exelent choice for dust to grab on to.

Then it is not creating mist. Have you been doing the cleaning maintenance that is required? Did you check their website?

Normal does not have enough minerals to conduct electricity very well, and thus a bit of bicarbonate soda in would facilitate the flow of electricity to make the humidifier work. A pinch of baking soda in the water would make it work.

No you probably have scale around the heater thus not heating the water warm eneough. The water trough is located in the bottom of the unit and it gets covered with scale you can sometimes crumble it off with your fingers. Sometimes you have to use a cleaner on them too. Me personally on mine I clean it with a flat blade. I have cleaned mine twice this year as I have hard water

how long the filter will last depends on your water .. if your water has a high mineral content then that is left behind as the water evaporates from the filter/wick ... the yellow brown sounds like calcium deposits .. calcium is often added to water to give it a good taste .. that may be beneficial for you but will build up on the filter .. it doesn't hurt much until it starts to clog the voids in the filter material .. as long as air gets thru then the deposits will be ok .. normally the filter should last about 3 months .. if you use distilled water (with no calcium added) then much longer .. if you have hard water then less .. there is a tablet that you can add to the water to reduce the calcium buildup .. the manufacturer of your humidifier will likely recommend that .. thats often available from hardware stores also ..

so your choices are:
1. don't worry about it until the filter becomes clogged
2. use the anti calcium tablet or something like ProTec PC-1 Humidifier Tank Cleaning Cartridge
3. use distilled water for really long filter life
4. plan on replacing the filter every 3 months

other types of humidifiers have other problems .. the hot water type gets calcium deposits on the heating element requiring cleaning a couple times a year, usually with vinegar or a calcium solvent .. that takes awhile..

the Ultrasonic type doesn't generally have problems with internal deposits because it blows moist air out including the calcium .. that produces a fine dust on surfaces in your house ..

of those types the filter system like yours is easier to maintain than the hot water type and doesn't leave dust behind like the ultrasonic all work better and longer if the water is pure .. distilled water doesn't cost much but you have to be careful .. read the small print .. some of it will say "calcium added" .. you don't want that .. if you use only distilled water then the filter should last the whole year ..

its possible that it had some hard water build up in it, or the pump is going weak, the first thing to do is put some warm water into it, but put a little bit of vingar into it. Doing this might help clear any calcium or other minerals build up in the lines.
