The problem is with the size you are about to print. Try to use the paper in landscape then Portrait as this may solve the problem. As the paper sensor in the printer is in the middle of the feed assy. and sometimes it may not detect the paper correctly. And also try to use the size as A4 but make the changes in your software you are printing from.

Hope this will solve the problem.

Critical firmware error. Go out to www.hp.com.
Check for latest firmware. Printout a config page to check
your printers' firmware revision.
You are gonna have to start there before throwing parts at the printer.

Thank you for contacting FixYa with your printer Inquiry.
41.3 Unexpected Paper Size Explanation
  • The printer detected a paper size different than what it was expecting.
  • This is typically caused if two or more sheets stick together in the printer, or if the paper tray is not properly adjusted.
Recommended action
  1. Reload the tray with the correct paper size.
  2. Ensure that paper in the tray is loaded under the front and back tabs.
  3. When printing from tray 1, verify that the correct paper size is selected in the control panel (see the Paper Handling Menu section in the User Guide ).
  4. When printing from tray 2, 3, or 4, verify that the three paper size adjustments on the paper tray have been made correctly (see the description of adjustments in the section on Loading Trays 2, 3, and 4 in the User Guide ).
  5. After performing the actions above, press GO. The page containing the error will automatically be reprinted if jam recovery is enabled. Or, press CANCEL JOB to clear the print job from the printer's memory.
Hope this helps. Please keep us updated and remember to rate this answer.

Hello, Sorry to hear you having issues with you laser printer there Paul.
It appears you tried allot of diagnosing yourself , and have made a conclusion that a communication board might be bad. However at lot of these printers have further issues beyond what we as techs might think. Have you tried another cable that goes from the computer to the printer?
Does the computer even see the printer as a device?
Most of these are usb ran printers where in rare occasions the cable could be bad, or the actual usb port not being supportive. You said you tried another computer so this would not be a usb port of any kinds as the problem area, I would give another cable a shot, if that does not do the trick then I would call it a bad communications board and pretty much replace the printer as repair could be costly.
I have enjoyed helping you in your issues today, if you do have answers to my questions please replay to me as soon as possible.

First take out your printer cartridge and clean the drum properly. and try again to check your problem is fix or not, if not then replace your printer cartridge.

Try downloading the Postscript driver instead of the PCL6 driver. There have been a lot of issues in the PCL driver. You might also try the universal driver. Both are list and can be downloaded from HP's website under the support icon.

Hope that helps you.

52.00 error is not good.
If you tried powering off and on and that didn't work, a tech is going to have to look at it.
Problem could be the laser/scanner or the engine control board(ECU)

Restart the printer and try printing again. If the error persists, it is either the scanner assembly or the ECU. More often the scanner fails on printers than the ECU.

This can be a number of reasons however I would be looking for a piece of paper jammed in the printer somewhere. Is the printer giving an error message or code?
If you turn the printer off, disconnect the printer cable, wait 5 minutes & then turn the printer back on, does it then power up & go to ready?

1) try doing a full clean from within the menu on the printer, or within the computer software
2) You need to perform a half test. Put a sheet of paper on the manual feeder and do a config page from the information menu on the printer. When the back edge of the paper enters the printer, quickly open the toner door to stop the printing. Now remove the toner cartridge and look at the image below. If the defect is present, then the toner cartridge is the problem 99% of the time. There is a slight possibility that during the conditioning stage of the print process the drum of the toner is not being fully discharged so when the next stage takes places part of the previous image gets put on the toner cartridge again. Very rare. If the defect is not present then the fuser has an issue.
