I'm pretty sure without looking at the documentation for this motherboard that you can indeed install 2x512mb sticks on this board and it will work fine, Its just a question of whether your OS can access all of it.

Some old OS's cannot access more than 512 but anything above xp should be fine

I know this is about a year later but I just had the same problem too last night.

When you turn on the PC it plays this crazy tone music right? If so, listen to it then at the end you will hear a couple of beeps. In my case my system beep twice at the end. 2 beeps for me indicated Power supply was in protected mode. Luckly I had a spare P4 PS laying around which solved the problem.

If you have different beep code google up "HP Vectra VL420 Beep Code". Standard beep code doesn't apply to this mobo since the BIOS is customized.

My power supply was a standard P4 ATX... no special design from HP you should be able to get one at any computer store. Beware just don't the cheapest one it cuz they aren't build to last and aren't reliable. Trust me I've seen too many people buying cheap power supplies and having them kill their mobo's.

If this is boot up time you need to go to Start / run type in msconfig enter
Go to startup and untick all except for antivirus and firewall and reboot
When you install some programs they put automatically start in and you have to stop them auto starting
this should decrease startup times

Depends on the operating system you're using and the components you need drivers for. XP and Vista have most of the default drivers you need to get started with most devices, and other than that, you can try to find device-specific drivers on the manufacturers website.

Besides that, you can do a search on Google, Yahoo, or other search engines for the manufacture, device name, and "driver" (like ASUS LAN driver for example).

Hope that gets you headed in the right direction. Let me know how you make out.

click here to learn what the computer beeps mean, let me know how many beeps you hear. It could be a video problem or a faulty memory module, try reseating your video car and memory modules also.

Let me know what happens
