Many of these digital video cameras are not very good for taking still photos. They are optimized for taking moving video pictures. There are many technical reasons for this.

If you want to take still photos, you will find that even a low cost digital still camera will be much better than most any of the video cameras.

Likewise, if you try to take moving pictures with a still camera that gives the movie option, you will find that it will not do as good as a dedicated video camera for the application. This is why manufactures go to the trouble to make both types of cameras.

If your video camera has a flash option for photos and it does not work for still pictures, consult the user guide about how to set this up. If it is properly set up, and it still does not work, then there is probably a fault in the logic control for the flash unit. This will then require factory level service.

I'm not sure if the original software is available but there are some better conversion programs available. Try this http://flaskmpeg.sourceforge.net/ and see if that isn't a much better program for downloading your dvr into your computer.

Are you asking for the firmware update? I do have it in a zip file just drop me an email and I'll send it to you... But please make your mail clear enough I get nearly 3000 emails a day so unless it's really clear what you're asking I probably won't understand...

It can capture still images to SD or MM card.
SD or MMC removable memory card. Depending on the compression and the selected resolution, the camcorder can record 220-880 JPEG images on a 32MB memory card or 45-190 on 8MB of memory.

You could try a little silicone spray around the threads (might want to wrap the camera in a cloth first).
However, if your camera was not threaded on straight then nothing will help to get it off but patience and persistance.

I got mine to go with a good lens cleaner, just like the one for your DVD, but for your camcorder.

I had the same problem - you are (as I was) turning off the camera too soon after you hit the stop button after recording a scene. Wait until the word "disc access" appears (about 5 seconds after you hit the stop button. This "marks" the end of the scene. I just don't know how to edit that scene out or if it will delete it out. I know after finalizing the disc that scene will pause for a while (10 to 20 seconds even) when you watch it through the DVD player to the TV.

You can puschase the NERO program that sometimes works with most disks. The program costs around 75 dollars. Or you can Simply go to a store that sells this model camera or one that uses the disc and simply ask to try out one of the models and finalize it there, I was trying to explain a few other options in our live session before you aborted it after waiting on me to look up the possible solutions for over half an hour. I do apologise that you are unhappy about the live chat support fees.

First find the format of the video.

Insert the video cd to the computer and right click the video file and the click the properties menu, watch the file type(i.e: .flv , .avi ,.wmv)

Basically the hitachi saves in mpeg2 or mpeg4 type.

Use the GOM player to play the video Or there are many more players available to play that video.
