heads need to be cleaned

I have about 2 dozen of these that my students use at my school and the power supplies are kept in a locked room only to be used by me. The reason? They get easily damaged. The little metal part that plugs into the back of camera is often the culprit. If the power supply/charger is pugged in and the metal tip at the other end touches anything metallic (keys, metal tripod, etc.), it will short out and render the unit useless. If the amber light doesn't go on on the charger, and you are sure you it properly connected to a power source, then my guess is that it's a damaged power supply. You can purchase a new one online at Panasonic Go to this link and click on the Parts locator link near the bottom of the page. http://www2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/vProdSupportModel?storeId=15001&catalogId=13401&displayServiceCenter=false&displayPartsLocater=true&itemId=88739&catGroupId=25203&displayTab=A&surfModel=PV-GS19&surfCategory=Camcorders%20with%20SD

firewire is an apple gift to the video etc . world ( also called standard : ieee 1394 ); it solves some problems better than usb because it is a peer to peer connection ( all devices communicate with each other ) and your editing will be easier with it ;

Sounds like you have a bad connection on the ribbon cable to the view screen. When you turn it 360 degrees that is a different connection. It should be an easy fix for a competent repair tech and should not be that costly, less than $100. Unless you are familiar with miniture electronics it would probably be beyond your capabilities. Two websites which offer free estimates are http://www.camcorderrepair.com or http://www.videotech.com Good luck.

You need some video player software that supports MP4 video streams. Google MP4 players. Most are free.

You could always try a reputable local electronics store, or an on-line retailer such as ebay.

This Panasonic DV tape camera is similar to Sony DV cameras. It has a Firewire 4 pin DV output (which Sony calls iLink). Does your laptop have Firewire (unlikely)?

The camera has an SD card slot for a card of up to 2 GB in size (non-HC, FAT16) but if I remember this is for still photos only, IIRC the USB connection cannot transfer video, Check your owners manual

The camera uses a compressed Sony/Panasonic PCM DV video format that needs a program that can read that format and convert that format.

My suggestion would be to send your tapes to a conversion service and have them saved onto DVDs or USB Stick one time. Or, find a friend with an older Macintosh with Firewire and iMovie, transfer and convert your video, and then move the files to your PC after

If you have a Firewire port, It may require a driver update

Or you can transfer the video through an external adapter but adapters with Firewire are impossible to find any more.

Might be still available from Panasonic, on their web site. If not I wouldn't trust the sellers.
