Top 20 Brother MFC-3240C All-In-One InkJet Printer - Page 3 Questions & Answers

If you look at the Brother website you will find a trouble shooting guide for your machine.

In the guide, for the error you quote Brothers guidance is to check for a stuck piece paper, however it also states that if the printhead is hard over to one side (righthand side if memory serves me correct), then to contact Brother. If you do so, Brother will tell you it needs to be serviced by a Brother agent, which will likely cost you more than a new one !

If it isnt a stuck piece of paper, the problem is due to the fact that Brother machines excessively self-clean. Each time they self-clean a small amount of ink is dumped in to a holding tank/sponge. When a predefined number of self-clean operations have been performed, the machine refuses to print and gives the error message you have stated. Brother state that the tank/sponge must be replaced before the counter is reset, again by a Brother agent.

However, there is a way of reseting the self-clean counter yourself - if you Google your model number and the error code somewhere in the results you'll find how to do it. The only risk of doing this without changing the tank/sponge is that it will eventually overflow and leak out the bottom, but I did my Brother all in one some time ago and have had no problems yet.

Make sure:
  • The ink cartridges are not empty.
  • If you have put in new ones make sure you have removed covers from both connections and nozzles.
Do a head cleaning on the printer:
  1. Push "Ink"
  2. Select "Cleaning" by pushing up and down arrows.
  3. Push "Menu/Set"
  4. Select "Black","Color" or "All"
  5. Push "Menu/Set" to start the cleaning.

Can do the procedure up to 5 times.

As a last resort you could take out the cartridges and rinse the nozzles under the tap water for a few seconds, wipe the cartridges dry and put them back in the printer.

If none of the steps help contact Brother for further assistance.

Hi there
There no easy way the printers are been made this way so you take them to the shop, but if you are handy with your hands and know what you are doing then you will need to take all apart and take out the ink pads inside the printer and clean them up make sure they nice dry when put back in, then you are going to need a program that you can find on the internet it will be called waste reset tools, or your printer will not work even after you done the clean out.

I have seen this too when the waste station is full. If this is the problem, it is likely time for a new machine or a reasonable repair bill.

Have you installed the Necessary Printer Drivers and Applications? Also set the MFC printer to default printer and change its status to Online. Power cycle the Printer once.

Hello may I suggest doing a simple reset of your machine. If you have not tried this please do so.

Simply unplug your printer power wire from the printer and wait about a minute. Now plug it back in and your problem may be resolved.

Next, if this does not make sure you do not have any print jobs backed up in your computers printer cue.

This can be done by looking in the bottom right corner of your computer monitor. look for a printer icon. If there is on there click on it and cancel all print jobs.

Also, check for paper jam, make sure paper is not causing problem.

You could check for a paper Jam or foreign oblect in the machine, under the top cover and in the back cover.

If there isnt a Jam in the machine it means there is a mechanical problem. There is a sponge in this machine and once it is full it wont be able to absorbe any more ink from the cleanings. You will need to bring it in for services, they would replace the sponge and reset the cleaning counter.

When ever you get an error message like the one you are describing, there should be a numerical code with it.

Most of the time when you get an error code like this, it is a mechanical problem with the machine.

Try unplugging the power for about 5 minutes to see if that clears it out, otherwise you might as well replace it. A machine like this has been discontinued and is not worth paying for repairs.

Hello,

If the black ink wont print, you will have to try cleaning the print head.
Press the "ink" button and select "cleaning".

You can do up to a maximum of 5 cleanings, anything more then that is a waste.

If that still doesn't work then the print head is not working properly.
You will need ot have the machine repaired or just replace it.
Given the price for repair Vs a new printer, it's better to just replace the printer.

Thanks,

Pat

There are 2 black sensor levers on the underside of the control panel, both go to sensors in the lid. If either is stuck or missing you will get that error. If both are there try blowing out with an air can.
