another possibility

its possible your encoder strip came off of the printhead assembly.

you will need to check by taking off the scanner assembly, then the upper cover.

look at the encoder strip and see if its in the groove of the printhead.

To solve the printing problem..

# Hold the cartridge upside down, with the bar-code label facing you and take a damp paper towel.
# Use the towel to wipe the printhead of the cartridge on the bottom (where the ink comes out). Wipe the printhead horizontally in one direction only (left to right).
# Continue doing this until it looks clean.
# Then dab the cartridge on the towel to make sure the ink is flowing.
# Next, look inside the printer and locate the carrier that holds ink cartridges. Caution: Make sure the cartridges are not installed at this point.

1. Look for a shiny piece of metal underneath the contacts at the back of the carrier.
2. Take a damp cotton swab (use water only!) and wipe along the bottom of the shiny metal piece. Note: You may need more than one swab.

# Reinstall the cartridges, making sure you snap them correctly into the printer.

YOU are NOT SUPPOSED to "refill" the actual ink cartridges, but replace them with new ones. If you need to know how to replace this ink cartridge (I have this machine too) you just pop open the front rigth side panel and then pull the little plastic purple lever down in front of the YELLOW cartrdige which is labeled with a Y on the pull down cover in front of it, and pull out the old one to dispose of it, take the cap off the new one and push it in-the direction the arrow on the cartridge is facing until it clicks and the purple plastic piece locks it in, then shut the cover and the machine will do a "cleaning" and then you will be ready to print.

I am taking it you have changed cartridges.  If not, do so.  If you have, then take the cartridge out and clean the contacts on the cartridge and the printer with a q-tip and rubbing alcohol.  Wait for it to dry and reinsert the cartridge.

Try hitting the button that says you did change cartridges.  The ink level indicator might be off if you do, but that might fix your problems.

... Are you sure about the exact error message?

This link seems to have a related explanation for something that sounds kinda similar

If not, from , you can find your printer's support page and then e-mail support. Nothing involving the word "initiate" appears in the user manual; I looked.

Normal 0 I suggest you get a sheet of Card Stock (Heavy paper) and place it in the feed way. Then press the print button applying a slight amount of pressure on the Card Stock so it will feed through the printer. The reason for this, is in some cases I have been able to clear the paper track of debris that was deposited there over time.
Worth a try, as I have fixed a number of printers this way, saving costly repairs.
Hope this helps. Bud

Now take a size 10 Envelope fold it so that it should become like a thin long strip........ Now Insert that Envelope on the left side corner of the Printer and move it from right to left and left to right as fast as u can for about 10 times..........
