There could be a posibility that you may be low on ink. The reason i say this is that you say it prints green. Green is blue and yellow. That means that your red is empty or dried out. If you are low on ink you will have a low or no ink indication and sometimes the software for the printer only has 3-5 diffrent indications. What i mean is when you see the data for your ink there are diffrent levels that it shows. Your software may not be able to diffrenciate between the colors just the status of say one color in your case it could be red. Therefore it would read 0% of ink avaliable but still be able print green. If i were you I would buy a new ink cartridge and see if you get the same results.

I do not know if Windows Vista driver software for the MFC-3240C is available on CD/DVD.

You can download either the Full Driver & Software Package or the Add Printer Driver Wizard for Windows Vista ("regular" edition) from this page.

Hi Jason, 5A is usually caused by a bad maintenance unit. The purge cam gear may be broken or too much load on the maintenance unit. Either way replacing maintenance unit should solve the problem.

One of the reasons why such error flashes is because the paper or media your are using might not be suitable for the printer. Always check on your paper preference before printing.

Even though you believe ink is still in the cartridge, your printer may not be able to sense this ink and may erroneously report that the cartridge is spent. If you receive this warning, remove the cartridge, turn off the printer and unplug it from the electricity. Wait 10 minutes. Restore the power and reinstall the cartridge as if it were brand-new. In many cases, the last bit of ink can be accessed after all--at least enough to produce a few more pages before the warning reappears.

When ever you get an error message like the one you are describing, there should be a numerical code with it.

Most of the time when you get an error code like this, it is a mechanical problem with the machine.

Try unplugging the power for about 5 minutes to see if that clears it out, otherwise you might as well replace it. A machine like this has been discontinued and is not worth paying for repairs.

In most cases the printer driver software can have errors while being in use or is shut down. So to reset remove your printer from the PC and uninstall the printer software. Now reinstall the printer software and then connect the Printer to be detected as a new hardware as it will be installed. Now check the printer properties to see the ink levels.
Activate head cleaning before a test is taken . Sometimes it is possible that the head is not reacting to the need of the PC command or can be an issue with ink drying or poor ink cartridge contacts. Sometimes the power supply unit must be checked as a poor SMPS unit can deliver low voltage and cause issues to the printer function. Check all the leads and connections of the mother board , the tags to the ink cartridge. Also check the mechanical settings of the ink cartridge , if jammed or tight remove motor and manually free the drive before it is set back.
