20 Most Recent Whirlpool GH4155XPS Microwave Oven Questions & Answers

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.

For post reference use this parts diagram:

Usually either the capacitor (Item 20 above) or the diode (item 19 above) causes this problem.

You POWER OFF the unit completely. CB OFF or local plug un-plugged.

- Open the chassis and you FIRST discharge the capacitor by holding a screwdriver way back on the handle and GROUND the capacitor across the 2 terminals at least 3 times. (Trust me if the capacitor is good and you do not do this your in for a really bad day)
- Disconnect one end of the power diode and then test the diode for continuity 2 times reversing the leads. It should read continuity on ONE direction / polarity only. If it reads open in both directions or short in both directions it has failed.
- Next test the capacitor by probing the terminals and again reversing the leads. On a scale of R x 1,000 or R x 10,000 (X 10 better) your looking for a momentary jump in resistance and then the meter returns to near infinity. (Just make sure all the leads are off ONE set of terminals first) Reverse the test leads and probe again. You should see the resistance jump and then fade to near infinity EACH time the leads are reversed..

These are the 2 most common reasons for the unit to run but not heat. If after testing you still have no isiolated the problem, respond with your results and we can proceed from there.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,

Door catches.

Remove from any power source, remove the cover of the cabinet. Slacken off the clamp mechanism and ease the clamp over the guide to allow the door to open. The door may be easily adjusted by slackening off the screws that clamp the door catch/actuators in place whilst holding the door closed and then tightening the screws. The rear of the door may be adjusted by slackening the lower door hinge screws and adjusting as required.
I hope that helps.

These particular Whirlpool models are a bit overdesigned, in my opinion!

Some have as many as 4 fuses and 3 thermal cutouts (TCOs) or thermostats, any one of which can render the oven "dead" if blown.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

If you don't find your mini-manual, or if you want to look at it before removing the controller, you can download it here (just enter your full model number with suffix from the tag in or on the oven).

You can find links to helpful exploded view diagrams and part ordering help here.

I recommend that you bookmark that link to your favorites.

Yes, I see and repair this controller problem on a regular basis. The total cost would be $54.95. See details, instructions, and forms at my site.

Usually they are T-15 Torx security screws. (If not T-15, then T-20)

On this microwave, you just need to enter the correct cooking time and power level. This will clear the previous time and power level that you entered. (This works since you need to use the Options button to do multi-stage cooking.)

The manual for the Whirlpool WMH53521HZ is available on the product site: https://www.whirlpool.com/kitchen/cooking/microwaves/over-the-range/p.2.1-cu.-ft.-over-the-range-microwave-with-steam-cooking.wmh53521hz.html . Scroll down to the Manuals & Guides section or use the link and expand the section. The current link to the manual is https://www.whirlpool.com/content/dam/global/documents/201705/UserGuide-W11047549-RevA.pdf .

I hope this helps.

I am not sure - if there are no small plastic plugs or pieces of trim hiding the retaining screws (most sensible assumption) the door interior will need dismantling to access the screw heads.

A microwave door is often made up of several layers to provide light weight with rigidity and provide adequate screening against microwave escape and if dismantling is possible (not always) it really should be entrusted to a professional or at least applying the utmost attention to detail.
