Food in refrigerator freezing solid toward back of compartment
Been there, done that. You need to have a new computer board installed in the fridge near the top. Ours got hit by static lightning ang blew two of them in two years. When they go out, the defrost cycle fails and Ice builds up in the freezer in the back middle. Take the back vover off in the freezer and you'll see it packed with ice since the defroster is not getting the signal to defrost. order a new computer board, install it in the top of the fridge side, in the back, above all those controls on the back right side in a white case to hold the board. defrost the ice by using a hair dryer and letting all the water drain out and get it dry. Those PC boards do not like static at all

Why is water leaking behind refrigerator?
Water is either coming from the water-supply to the ice-maker, or from an overflowing evaporation tray under the refrigerator. Check the tray first. If it's full, it could still be coming from the water-supply, or from the defrost cycle. If the tray is empty, it's definitely the water supply. If the tray is full, then empty the tray and turn off the water supply. Wait a day or two to see if anything changes. If the tray doesn't fill up, then it's the ice maker supply. If it still fills up, then there is something wrong in that there is so much defrosting to do. Give this a try and let us know what happens.

Amana bottom freezer-
Your model does not have an auto damper so the most likely cause is the themostat is out of calibration or the control vent from freezer is open all the way. Try adjusting to warmer temps and see if compressor will run less. If the only action the thermostat will do is turn off then for sure the thermostat. If the compressor continues to run at warmer tempertures the thermostat wil need replaced. If the dammper vent is stuck open or broken will allow the colder heavy air to settle to bottom section. The bottom crisper in my refrigerator is freezing everything....w
Look all the way to the rear of the control console in the fresh food compartment. Look up into the opening with a mirror. There should be a styrofoam diffuser (61005543) visible. If this is missing or damaged (many people think it packing material and remove it) it needs to be replaced. It spreads the air out rather than let it go right down the back wall to the crisper area.
One other thing to check is a tiny slot at the right rear of the same control console. a metered flow of air comes out the slot to the barrel shaped cylinder with the cold control capillary wrapped around it. Sometimes the slot gets water in it and freezes over. The unit will run too long and the cold air will settle during the off cycle and freeze items at the bottom. More often than not, when the slot freezes over, other items in the fresh food compartment will freeze......not just the bottom items.
