A Thermal error on the T43 usually indicates a problem with overheating. This can be caused by many reasons:
1. Dirt build up on fan or fan louvres causing fan to turn slowly and not being able to cool the system properly.
2. Blocking of air inlets to the laptop. Do not use on your lap, or on soft surfaces such as blankets, bedsheets, etc.

If you feel a lot of heat from the air out of the laptop, then the system is over heating.

You can run fan diagnostics as follows:
1. Turn on the computer and check the air turbulence at the louver near the PC Card slot.
2. Run Diagnostics --> ThinkPad Devices
--> Fan.

Here is the T43 maintenance manual to see how to check and or replace the fan.

Sometimes (rarely) laptops need a bit of a kick to get them going! When confronted with this particular issue, I power off the laptop, disconnect the power supply, remove the battery and discharge any residual charge by pressing the power on switch for a couple of seconds.
Replace the battery, re-attach the power and reattempt the normal power on cycle. See it that kicks it into action!

Make sure the fan is not jammed, if it is free running then try a replacement.

On the right side of the keyboard look at the top row of keys. You will find one that reads "PrtSc". This is the key you press to take a snapshot of the screen.

Before doing so, make sure to open the application that you want to paste the snaptshot to first so that the image is saved onto that application. Once you press the key, go to the application, then paste the image. Let me know if this works.

Here is a fast test for the inverter in the display. Take a small flashlight and shine it in to the bottom right corner where the windows start button should be. While shining the light in try looking at the screen. If you can see the Start icon then the inverter PS or the FL tube in the display is bad. The least expensive fix is to replace the Inverter. There exist detailed instructions for the disassembly of the display panel as well as sources for the part itself. If there is further problems contact back later.

Either the wire underneath has come off or it is turned off in the BIOS. Look under DEVICE MANAGER-do you see any exclamation marks there? Is there an "F" key that turns your pad ON/OFF? If so, hold down the FN key and tap the F key once to turn it back on.

Sounds like one of two things...

1. Somebody spilled somthing or got some sticky junk in there and one of the keys is semi gummy.

2. The machine got banged around once too many times and one of the connections is slightly ajar.

So basically it sounds like it's hardware and not software, so you'll probably have to pull it apart yourself, or else take it to someone

the first place to look if you need anything for you pc is the manufacturers website. If you don't find what you're looking for the you can always use google, yahoo or your favourite search page to find it.
Checking the IBM/Lenovo website I found this which has all the information you'll need to dismantle your laptop. Just read through it first then you'll see what you need to do.

Is your date and time correct? You may need a new CMOS/RTC battery? Does the Laptop loose time/date/year, when you plug back in, after being unplugged without battery installed?

It could be a video driver related issue. Try updating your video driver. You can get the updated version in the website of your computer's manufacturer. However, if you want to make your life easier, then I suggest that you install RadarSync and scan your computer so that you can get all the updates for your computer.
I hope this helps!
