Don't believe the stereotype about blondes being dumb. Here is a link for software and manuals for your printer. These are for WinXP. If you need the driver it is listed under software. Under guides and manuals you will find three including a quick start, setup and full manual. I advise downloading all three. YES, they have pictures. If you need Vista just add a comment and I'll come right back and show you where to find it although you can find it at same site. Good luck blondie. If you need more help just ask. http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=SupportDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=257&modelid=10238#DownloadDetailAct

Unplug the unit and check it at another outlet, preferably on another circuit. This is just to be sure the problem is at the power supply not an overloaded circuit.

If it doesn't turn on, then the unit is in need of repair or replacement. If the printer is still under warranty, contact Canon at 1-800-OK-CANON (toll free) from 10 AM to 10 PM M-F (except holidays). Otherwise decide if the unit is worth the charges for diagnosis and repair. The diagnosis will probably start at ~$50 that will be included in the cost of the repair if you decide to continue.

I wish that I had better news for you.

I have been using the Canon MP180 PIXMA for almost three years now without a hitch until I received a paper jam warning which I could not resolve. I Googled "Canon PIXMA paper jam" today and landed on this site. I turned the printer upside-down and shook vigorously. Out popped a small pebble-like bit of concrete which somehow found it's way into my printer. I guess our hardwood floor installation on the floor above had shaken up some old plaster and concrete bits that had lodged in our drop-down ceiling from our 3rd floor bathroom renovation last year and this little ****** came through an opening in our rec-room (where the computer and printer are) drop-down ceiling. A very strange sequence of events, that I would not have suspected, but happy to say that your advice here did the trick and the printer is a tough and trustworthy little printer afterall! Thank you. Hello,

You can search on internet for service manual, in order to find how you can open the printer and fix the issue.

Maybe. Sounds like the print head is fubar and Canon charges a fortune for them; it is cheaper to get a new printer in that case after checking it out.

Before shopping you might want to try a hard reset of the printer and reinstalling the software after uninstalling the prior software. If still bogus then .....................

Print head is fubar and for the cost that Canon will hit you with for a new print head you really have no alternative - new printer is cheaper than print head and also comes with a warranty.

I tried all the reset codes and so forth you might find on other otherwise useful forums, and i have successfully modded 5 of these to print on DVDs, but this "operator error" and five yellow flashing lights was a tough nut to crack. I was about to give up and toss it when I tried one more thing and it works!biggrin.gif

With the cartridges removed and the printhead carrier in the central position, press the empty printhead's back gently but firmly about a dozen times back against the printhead carrier, pushing it in toward the rear of the printer. I think this may help improve a bad contact between the half a dozen or so rows of little metal contacts on the printhead and their corresponding protruding little metal pins on the printhead carrier. It feels a little spongy (you can feel some give) as you push it in toward the rear of the printer and it gently springs back forward.

This solved it for me. I thought I'd share my idea and successful solution, and I hope it helps you, too.

If you unplug a printer that is performing a firmware update then that ruins the logic board. However you do not say why the update was being performed. had you initiated the update? or did the machine start to do this of its own accord? Anyway its too late now. A new logic board is required and it has to be done by a Canon engineer as his has the software to reload its programming. This is well out of the scope of a user repair. Sorry.

I found a solution to the Black printing problem :)
Under Printing Preferences: Set your Media Type to Photo Paper Pro.
We used edible ink cartridges and printed onto icing sugar paper. Same old... Just one day it refused to print black. In order to continue our small business, I degraded the color until I printed gray and not black.

Tonight, I browsed for the problem and came across this :)

Hope it helps you too
