This is what I found. Windows Media Player 11 messes it up. All you have to do is uninstall anything Windows Media Player 11 and then run the firmware upgrader. It's some sort of but. You can reinstall WMP when your done installing the firmware. I found it on the creative forum.

I have the sleek photo and mine bugged out. It would go to the splash screen and then go blank and just sit there. Nothing would respond. I tried reset, reboot and other things too. My pc also would not recognize the player. To make a long story short, I tried other suggestions I found on the web. They didn't work and my player would now only go to a garbled splash screen and go right to the recovery screen.

I had the new firmware, but I couldn't use it because the pc wouldn't detect the goofy player. Then I ran across a site that mentioned that Windows Media Player can cause player recognition problems. I removed both WMP (mine was 11) and WMP runtime using the add/remove programs option on the control panel. I restarted the pc and BAM! the player was now recognized. I ran the new firmware application and the player works fine now. The key for me was getting rid of WMP and the WMP runtime.

I think there are brightness controls in the settings, I'm not too sure lol as my player isn't in the room with me. If there are brightness settings, make sure they're turned up and your backlight is not set to OFF. If the problem persists after this, you can get in touch with Creative an I think they offer a repair service if the product is not under guarantee anymore, but if it is under guarantee, enjoy a new player courtesy of the guys down at Creative. I hope this helps^^

Try this...Push a pin into the reset hole at the bottom of the player while at the same time holding down the play and power buttons. Next on the recovery screen that shows up, run the ":clean-ip" function. Then try again to import the music files.

Try uninstalling Windows Media Player version 11 from your computer before trying to reload the firmware. It works wonders.

I also have that Zen Sleek.... you have to remove first the screen which sealed in a glue, then the keypad... from there you will have access to remove the top and bottom platings. You will need a precision tool of Philips Screwdriver to unscrew bottom and top platings.

You tried getting to recovery mode by pushing the play and power buttons at the same time while pressing a pin into the tiny reset hole on the bottom of the player? If not, do that and run "clean-up". It might be able to fix the software for you.

Jukebox is no longer supported by Yahoo. You may be able to access the mp3 files using windows media player or creative's media explorer but beware that creative's software is often locked out by WMP version 11.

Use Creative's Media Explorer which came with the player. Click on "add media", then select which files you wnat to transfer. This applies to MP3 files but if you have loaded CD's onto the PC in their original format, you will need to convert them to MP3s.

Did you try resetting the language assigned in the "System" function on the top menu? If you absolutely have to start over, and I doubt you do, then do a rest while holding down the play and power buttons at the same time. That will bring up the recovery mode. Start with reboot, then try clean-up, If those don't work, then you can reformat which will clear the library, then if you HAVE to, firmware which will empty all the software off your unit, requiring you to remove WIndows Media Player 11 form your computer, restart it and reload the firmware fromt he creative site. That's a pain and probably not necessary so start small and try to switch it back to English. It's probably just the language setting in the system menu.

Go to the uninstall function of Control Panel and uninstall all traces of Windows Media Player version 11. Only WMP11, not prior WMP numbers. Then restart the computer and plug the zen in again. Once you have the computer dealing with the zen normally, you can reinstall WMP11 form the internet.
