You never should have pried it open. Only use the manual eject pin-hole with a paperclip. Noe it seems the drive tray is damaged and will not close properly so it is constantly opening and closing trying to find home. The drive will need replaced.

use ac power
try the 1 gig in each slot make sure it's secure.
If system still won't boot
then restart and try to get into bios setup
then set to default settings restart
if still not successful then replace the old ram make sure it's secure in the slots and restart
Then i would suggest taking new ram back and if you give them your make and model they can suggest ram for you

I started having the same problem. I think my system recovery information is stored internally on the computer but I do not remember what that restore key is. Can someone please remind me?
Thanks. I cannot get beyond the blue screen and safe mode or anything like that doesn't seem to work.

Jessica sounds like you have a few possible problems. first when you start your computer goto my computer and right click on the hard drive icon. Goto properties then select check disk. After this is done. ( it may take a while depending on how many errors) then do the same thing go into my computer right click on the hard drive icon goto properties and select defrag. When you are in defrag first let it analyze your hard drive. If it says you need to defrag let it defrag your hard drive. Once all this is done then restart your computer. You should notice a big change in speed both in your post bios and in your windows startup. After your computer has stopped loading windows. Check to see how many icons you have in system tray. ( to many icons or programs running in system tray can cause your computer to slow dramatically) Delete or disable the icons you do not use in your system tray. Then log on the internet and go to your favorite search engine. Type in registry repair. And run the program ... this will fix any registry errors plus some of them have capability to remove junk files even clean out your temp internet. If you have any more problems feel free to contact me. I will talk you through it step by step if need be.

Normal 0 Turn the mouse over and find the small rest/connect button on the bottom of the mouse and press it. This should connect the mouse to the receiver and work properly. If not, try pressing the receiver button and then press the button on the mouse. This should be done whenever you change batteries or glitch.
Hope this helps you. Bud

Well it is most likely a issue with the Video driver as you are able to boot to the safe mode.I would suggest going back to the safe mode and deleting the present driver for the video from the device manager.before you restart the system just download the latest version from the support.dell.com so that you can reinstall it.Also check in the graphic properties which screen is set to be the defuat.Incase still not working i would suggest reinstalling the operating system before replacing any hardware.

Reformatting drives cleans up your disc. Or shall we say when done reformatting, you started from scratch. That is if you install a fresh copy of Windows. Now, doing that, you should reinstall all the drivers needed for your laptop to have the functions working again. Your screen resolution matter, it can be 1280x800 again if you install the graphics driver of your laptop. To avoid this kind of problem again, you should install updated full version of antivirus.

Is this happens always or only in windows? If it happens in windows only then there can be graphics driver related problem.
Otherwaise it is caused by a bad LCD/Motherboard

hi!

black screen at startup? do you still see the Dell logo at startup? try pressing Fn+F8 at the same time at the black screen and see if it works. Or else, try a working external monitor and check if its a OS problem or a screen problem. You can also run a diagnostic test by holding down the Fn key while its off and then press the power button while still pressing on the function key to check if you will still see the diagnostic test for the LCD.

Is the laptop doing this when you select “Turn Off Computer” from the “Start” button? If so, tap the <F12> key while powering on your laptop. This will bring you to a “Boot Selection Menu”. At that menu, power off the laptop by pushing the power button and see if you still have the problem. If the laptop remains off, you probably have an issue with you Operating software (i.e.… Windows XP etc...). If the laptop turns on by itself from “Boot Selection Menu”, you probably have a bad power switch control panel or motherbrd problem.
Hope this helps.

The laptop won’t POST after removing the memory? Sounds like the memory module (s) need to be reseated again. Removing memory will not reset the laptop. If you want to install a clean Windows XP load, you need to boot from the Windows CD and format the hard drive.
Fell free to contact me if you need futher assistance.
