There are a number of issues that could cause a communication problem with any USB printer (assuming it is turned on/has power). The most likely is a bad cable. After that, you need to check for a problem with the OS print spooler, a problem with the port (on either the computer or the printer), or a driver problem.

Replace the cable with a new one. Connect it to a different port on the computer. If you use a print server or a USB hub, try a direct connection.

Look at the list of what is printing. In Windows, open the printers control panel (click Start > Device and Printers or Printers and Faxes, depending on the OS). Then right-click on the printer and choose "See what's printing". Are several print jobs still in the queue? Try to clear these jobs by cancelling them. If you can't cancel them, you can force the print spooler to clear by stopping and restarting the service. In Windows, open the command prompt (Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt (with Vista or Win7, right click and choose Run as Administrator)). Type "net stop spooler" without the quotes and followed by enter. Then type "net start spooler" again without the quotes and followed by enter. After you see the prompt, restart the computer. After the restart, wait a while before trying to print again. (Note: if you have a fax connected to the computer, you will see a message about the fax service being stopped after the first message. Click Y.)

If the printer status is unknown, check the device manage. Click Start > Control Panel > System and Security > System > Device Manager (in Win7). Right click on My Computer and select Properties then click on the Hardware tab for XP. Look for a yellow exclamation point in a triangle next to Lexmark. Unplug the USB data cable and then uninstall the Lexmark software. (A quick link is the Uninstall link in the Lexmark folder in the list of All Programs from the Start button.) Download the correct driver from Lexmark http://support.lexmark.com/index?locale=EN&page=product&userlocale=EN_US&productCode=LEXMARK_X1270&focusedTab=DOWNLOADS#1 . Select the correct OS from the drop down menu. Install the software and then plug in the data cable when prompted. Alternatively, let Windows find the best driver by plugging the USB cable with the trouble-shooter. Right click on the appropriate line in the device manager. (This is not recommended with all-in-ones since Windows often only finds a printer driver and omits the scanner functions.)

While you are in the Device Manager, check for a similar yellow exclamation point or red x in a triangle in the section marked Universal Serial Bus. Try to update the driver for the USB controller (again you can right click on this).

Next try to reset the printer by removing the data cable and then unplugging the power cord from the printer. Then unplug the power cord from the outlet. Wait a few minutes (if possible, move to a new outlet). Then reconnect the power cord and then the data cable. Turn on the printer if it doesn't come on. Try printing.

If possible, try installing the printer on another computer. If the printer still doesn't work, the USB port on the printer is probably bad. If it is under warranty, contact Lexmark. Otherwise, it may be better to replace the printer instead of repairing it.

I hope this helps.

Click the Printer Properties to get into the Maintenance so you can check the ink cartridges and tell it that there is a new cartridge in black.

Lexmark X1270... | 35 views | 0 helpful votes

It could be due to your color cartridge. Try to do the clean cartridge function using the printer software on your computer.
  1. On your computer, go to Start menu.
  2. Go to Programs.
  3. Go to Lexmark 1200 Series folder.
  4. Select Lexmark Solution Center.

From the Maintenance tab, select Clean to fix horizontal streaks. Your printer will then print a page forcing ink through to clean the print cartridge nozzles.

Try to scan again to verify that the print quality has improved. If not, try to replace your cartridge.

Please try this approach:
  1. Browse to Start -> Run... and type in NET STOP SPOOLER (this will stop the print spooler service)
  2. Browse to your windows\system32\spool\PRINTERS\ folder. You should see files there ending in .SPL and .SHD created around the time you tried to print - delete these files.
  3. Browse to Start -> Run... and type in NET START SPOOLER (this will restart the print spooler service)

Try to print a document again to verify that the problem is fixed.

Try to re-seat the cartridges in the printer. Open the printer cover > remove the cartridges > close the printer cover > re-brick you printer by pulling out the power supply - black box behind the printer where the power cord is plugged in, and re-plug after 10 seconds. When the printer turns on, reinsert the cartridges and close the cover. Try to print a document again to verify that the problem is fixed.

If that doesn't help, the problem could be due to a clogged print cartridge nozzle. Please follow the steps below to fix print quality issues with your model:

Please be informed that any Printer Driver software depends upon the hardware make and Operating System. You need to know all these information to do get going. You can download the same by visiting the website http://support.lexmark.com/index?locale=en&page=product&productCode=LEXMARK_X1270&segment=SUPPORT&userlocale=EN_US&frompage=null#1

Even here, you need to be careful to download the correct software for your PC. You need to be exact with the Printer Model number and the OS that you are using.

To install just Double clock on the driver setup.exe file and go on clicking 'Next' until you get the 'Finish' option and restart the PC.

Lexmark products work best with genuine supplies. Lexmark does not recommend the use of refilled, remanufactured, or clone cartridges. You might not get the print quality you expect from ink that is specially formulated by Lexmark.
You can try to clean your cartridge nozzles using the Lexmark software on your computer. From your computer, go to Start menu > Programs > Lexmark X1200 Series folder > select Lexmark Solution Center. From the Maintenance tab, select Clean to fix horizontal streaks. Your printer will then print a page forcing ink through the cartridge nozzles and clean them.
If that does not help, maybe it would be best to replace your supplies with genuine cartridges.
I hope this helps.

First ..be sure you installed the driver for it ..and it is the correct driver for your operation system ..
To do that ..if you do not have the disk with the driver..just get to the support site...and select the model and operation system ..and download the driver and run it into the computer and during the installation it will ask you to connect the printer (be sure is connected with the right cable and it is powered and on ).If it does not ask for to connect it ...just finnish the installation ..and connect it after ...and it will start the pairing by itself ..or you will need to restart the computer ..
Only than it will print proper..
Also check to see if the cartridges are full and also not being dry out ..To do that ..remove them one by one ..and check the with a paper to see if they leave a mark on the paper ..This way you will know they are not dry .
here is a link for te support site where you may find the driver
