Ask for IEEE1394 cable also called iLink or firewire.
Beaware that firewire has several types of socket configurations.

In most cases a 4 pin to 6 pin cable will work.
4 pin goes to the camera 6 or 9 pin goes to PC or Mac.

No you don't need to take out the battery.
Tell us what version of windows your running and what connection you are using to hook it to your PC.
ie: USB, FIREWIRE, Ethernet?

Remember to give the thumbs up if this helps.

This is usually caused by an oxidized or defective Audio/Video drum. Try running a cleaning tape through the camera. If this does not solve the problem the camera will need to be serviced by a qualified service technician.

My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I'm semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs.

Do you mean a driver for the webcam portion of the camera, or to transfer footage to your computer from the tape? If you mean for footage transfer, then you are in luck, because no driver is needed. You just need your video editing software and it will communicate with the camera over the firewire port and cable.

If you did mean for the webcam feature then you should be able to download it from the support section of panasonic.com

Try running it just on mains power. If it still does nothing, find its RESET button (usually very small and hidden somewhere). the user guide will show were it is.
If there is still no lights or screen showing, it may be that it has gone faulty completely :(
If it's just the screen gone faulty, you will find you can still eject the cassette door and put tapes in etc.

If you don't want to spend a lot of money you could use Corel VideoStudio. As for cables, your camera should have come with a USB 2.0 cable that would connect to the camera and then to the USB port on the PC. Or, if your pc has a firewire port, you could buy that cable to connect for a faster video transfere and capture. Hope this helps.

These things are very delicate and even small hits can do the damage sometimes. From what you have described, it seems that the motor is out of whack as you put it. Must take professional help. May be the alignment has gone (the jittery sound???) and needs your attention.

Connect the camera to the PC. The PC should detect the camera and a window will pop up asking you what to do. Select COPY CONTENTS TO HDD or some such thing. All contents will go to MY Videos folder in My Documents.

Best buy has brand new ones, or you could surf the web and find a cheaper one at like amazon. Just make sure that the size of the cable matches up with the size of your computer or else it will not be able to plug in.

The problem I have is like the other people, I got the firewire in the port and DV on the camera and my computer just doesn't recongnize it. Where's the solution to this? I have been trying to edit my film for over a year now with troubles with losing wires and now this and stuff. Hope this helps

I had the same problem of my program not recognizing the camera and clicking "refresh" did nothing. I downloaded Windows Movie Maker 2.6 and it enabled me to transfer from the tape in the camera to my PC and to a DVD.

Okay, I'll admit...I don't know whether this problem was solved by the download of Windows Movie Maker 2.6 or it was the fact that I finally figured out that I had to attach the AC cord to do anything at all! Sometimes we overlook the simplest things!!
