With an antenna that is pointed correctly to satellites 110 and 119, the receiver will function, but will not have access to paid channels without authorization from DISH (which you can get by calling 1-800-333-3474). You may have to run a check switch test after connecting to antenna by accessing the menu, system set-up, installation, check switch.

Hi James,

Normally, no. Most areas have gone digital-only. Here in Canada, just about everywhere has completed Phase II of our DNU (Digital Network Upgrade) regulated by the CRTC... meaning that you will need a STB to view any sort of programming.

Check with your local cable provider to see what's up. They'll know for sure.

If your remote is currently not connecting to the DISH receiver please make sure that your remote is on the correct mode, which is: Satellite Mode. How do you know if the remote is on SAT mode? You can find out by pressing any button on the remote and pay attention to the four mode buttons located at the top pf the remote and check to see if the SAT clear button is the one that lights up. If your remote is on SAT mode but is still not changing channels it will most likely need to be readdressed to the receiver. This can be a variety of different things, ensure television is powered on, what color light do you see on the front of your DISH Network 311 receiver? The green light is the one you should be seeing if the receiver is in fact powered on. If the light is not on even after pressing the power button on both the remote & the receiver, then I would recommend checking the source from which the receiver is plugged in, is it plugged directly into a electrical outlet on your wall, or is it plugged into a power strip? If wall outlet, perhaps try a different outlet and see if that makes a difference, if it's plugged into a power strip or surge protector unplug from wall and unplug receiver from strip for 30 seconds and reconnect checking to see if issue has been resolved. While checking these things, I would also recommend double checking to ensure nothing may have become disconnected and that all cables are connected from the back of your receiver to the back of your tv and to the wall and they are hand tight. Have you tried resetting the unit. Open the door to the activation card. Press and hold the small red button. If this does not correct it is probably the receiver. Also if the dish is near trees, new tree growth could be blocking your signal.

I would be happy to help you with this. Are you trying to unlock channels that were locked by the parental controls system? If so, the account holder would have to contact us, verify their information, and request an access hit to be sent.
If you're looking to unlock channels to watch, and upgrade would be required if you don't currently receive them. There is no way to receive those channels free.

If you lost a remote for the 625, we would have to send out a replacement. Our 1.5 remotes are dedicated remotes that come addressed to one receiver. They do not have the ability to be reprogrammed to another receiver.

Hey dgrines81!

I would need more information to provide an accurate solution including what model of receiver, but it sounds like you have an SD receiver hooked up to a HD TV.

Our SD receivers can show picture on an HD TV, they just need the correct cable. If your TV has the spot, I would recommend using RCA (Red, Yellow, White) cables.
