SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

Most likely the date back up battery needs replacing. It is at the bottom left of your camera. Remove the cover and replace the button battery. Please check the battery number (probably CR1220 Lithium 3.0) and and install it right way round. Don't use metallic tweezers to hold the battery as it will short-circuit and drain the battery.

There's some hints at page 69 of the manual. See if:

1. the battery cover/memory slot is open
2. batteries are loade in wrong position
3. batteries aren't alkaline or NiMH (common batteries won't work)
4. connections between batteries and camera is poor (try cleaning it with a dry cloth)

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo management program such as Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com ).

I had the same problem - just put the lock button of the card to the lock position and than again to the unlock position

Have you saved anything new on this camera memory card after the formatting process?
In fact, after the deleting or formatting process, the lost files on this memory card of your camera are not actually wiped out as you normally think. They are still stored on this memory card and only become invisible. But, they cannot be there forever. They can be rewritten by anything new on the same memory card. So, you should take care.
Plunge this camera to your computer and download a memory card data recovery freeware to help you out:

I believe this data recovery freeware can work perfectly on your memory card just in the same way as it completely retrieves all the deleted data of my friend off from his camera memory card. Just give it a shot!
Directly download this freeware here:

PS: If you don't want to encounter the similar data recovery problems, you'd better back up everything important well in the future.

Take no more pics until you've recovered your photos, take the card out of the camera. This is to reduce the chance of you overwriting some of your "lost" photos. There are many good freeware photo recovery software options that may help you recover your photos. This article reviews and outlines several of the better ones:
