One or more Problems could cause this
1) I believe you have an HSI Ignitore in your Oven These sometimes Crack and will glow enough to ignite the burners before they stop working completely. Your burner tube might be Dirty or Clog and needs to be cleaned as well as the orifice face. Check it out let me know if this was the Problem.

The ignitor is not working right and is going bad....
have the repair man replace the ignitor, or DIY....

You seem to have the moxie and electronic test tools so why not try to get a schematic for unit? Appears to be your best bet. You can try a google search for it or try this site which often has electric schematics for appliances. Search Over 2 1 Million Appliance Parts

There should be a metal spring cip ring around the spindle of the knob which keeps it tight around the spindle on the switch. Sounds like its snapped. Compare it with one that works, they should just pull off and push back on, but with a little bit of resistance.

Being a mason contractor for over 30 years, and also live in Wi. I would ask you about what its main use would be for. Using wood as a "stove" really narrows your selection. If using it for just a cooktop...then your best choice is the size that fits the area of your living space while also offering the largest top surface area. All while looking at the stoves btu output efficiency. Your cost greatly jumps when adding an actual stove into the mix...and efficiency drops. Good luck hunting one down.

With this new information, I suspect that your problem is the press button ignition switch or the wiring from it.
