Good Afternoon Friend,

I understand you have a 7 year old Kenmore dishwasher, which you want to know how to check the heating element to see if it's working. Typically, this is not a do it yourself job, as there are no step by step instruction manuals. I suggest contacting your local authorized technician for further assistance. They have been trained on your appliance and should be able to diagnose your appliance and determine if the heating element is working. Hope this is helpful.

-Best Regards-

Possibly the heater element is faulty?

We have had the same problem and upon removing the main circulation pump, I found that the housing had come apart and had to order a new pump and install it. But the problem did stop there. The pump that discharges the dirty water has two stainless steel ball bearings in it and was worn out. So now I have to replace this pump also..... this needless to say, will be my last fridgidaire dishwasher. The unit is not ever six years old and might be used once a week.

It's a quirk of the cycle timer. You can replace the timer ($) or live with it. Besides, a replacement might have the same quirk

Hello jerrydj1021 - Often when the breaker trips, it is a mainly because there is too much current running on one circuit. Is the unit plug into a GFI outlet? It is not recommended to use GFI outlets or too many appliances plugged into that one circuit. Try plugging the unit into another direct outlet and see if the breaker trips again. I ask that you please follow up with a comment on the post, at your convenience, to advise if further troubleshooting is needed or if the unit's status has changed successfully. Thank you.

Yes, I've fixed a few, and was unable to fix a few. You may need to remove the whole cover of the dishwasher to get to the insides. You should find either the springs are broken on both sides of the bottom of the door, or even more likely, the plastic parts between the springs and the body or the door have broken. The parts can be ordered from "Sears Parts" on the inter-net. You will need to provide the model number to look them up.
Be blessed.

Hello - The issue may lie with the door latch; a door switch is used to start and stop your dishwasher. It's a safety feature that won't allow water to flow with the door open. With a faulty door switch, there is a chance your dishwasher won't start at all. Dishwasher door switches are about an inch long. They are usually black but can be red. There are metal prongs on the body of the switch called terminals. Some door switches have two terminals and some have three. If your door switch is OK, check the timer assembly. This controls when and how long power is sent to other controls on your dishwasher. If these controls don't receive power, they won't work. The timer assembly contains a motor. Check this motor as well. It is often cheaper just to replace the timer motor rather than the complete assembly. My last suggestion is to check the cycle selector switches. These switches indicate cycles for washing, drying, and setting the temperature of the water. If one of your switches is the problem your dishwasher may also prevent the unit to start. Dishwasher cycle selector switches tell the timer which cycle to run by opening and closing electrical circuits. Most selector switches are six to eight inches long. They are usually black and have terminals. By testing each one of these parts with an ohmmeter you should be able to determine why your dishwasher is not working. It is possible for other parts to fail but these are the most common parts to check. If any proves to be ineffective, I strongly suggest contacting a professional to move forward accurately.

The first thing to check with any of the newer dishwashers is the water temprature coming into the machine and the amount of water coming in. Since you are having trouble with the detergent dissolving, I expect the water is not hot enough. Many of the detergents require 140 degrees f to dissolve properly.

The incoming water should be 120 degrees minimum, then the dishwasher will heat it up some more. The cooler the water, the longer the cycle will take. It won't advance to the next step until the water reaches a certain temp, depending on the cycle selected and the model of dishwasher.

If the dishwasher has to heat the water too much, it will cause the heat element to fail prematurely.

If your water heater is set to the average 130-135 setting, then you may be able to solve your problem by running the hot water at the sink before turning the dishwasher on. This will get the cold water flushed from the pipes so the washer fills with hot water on the first fill.

Also. start the washer in a cycle, let it fill and start washing. Open the door and see how much water is in the tub. It should come up to the bottom of the heating element.

Post back and let me know what you find out.

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.
Take the sump apart from the inside of the tub and clear the debris from under the lower wash arm support. (remove the wash arm support and clean inside) There is a plastic ball in there that moves side to side to pass water to the upper wash arm. The ball is not moving due to debris.
Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

The ball goes under item 10 this picture:

You can enlarge the picture once opened. The Expert Gene Strote was correct. I just like this picture better because you can instantly expand it with explorer.

Manual Number 5995477345.pdf is a service manual not for your unit but will show you the sump and were the ball goes.

A service manual that will show you the sump area and the ball.

Thanks for choosing FixYa, and myself.
