If you have both pieces of the broken key, it can be duplicated.

I did not find that key code listed for Brinks, but perhaps you can get one from Brinks. A locksmith can make a key, check the cost. You really don't want to pay more than the cost of replacing the lock.

Janice the part you are describing is called a snap ring, and it probably is intended to hold the knob assembly together. If you are feeling courageous, you could take the one that was assembled correctly off the door and see if you can locate where the snap ring is supposed to fit. there should be an access code maybe on the back of the device, if you have mounted it, remove it and inspect the back of it for code also check for code anywhere inside the the advertisement from package. if you bought it from a neighbor and it was opened, give it back,,,nice try
