My passcode is not opening
Gunsafes are meant to be difficult to open. I'm unsure as to your logic in the novel use of that 9v battery, all it would have done was to short circuit the battery.
Remington's own website gives you only one option if you're a US resident, "Contact Liberty Safes, the licensee, at 800-247-5625 for assistance with obtaining the combination to your safe.
If your safe is a low cost model and you need access quickly then you'll have to cut the safe open, but more expensive models are resistant to this form of attack and the safe will need to be scrapped and replaced afterwards.

Light turns green but door won't open
Set the thumbturn to “unlocked” (vertical) position before u remove the inside cover to change the battery. Keep it in “unlocked” until you have completed the battery change and put the inside cover back on. Now u can put thumbturn in “locked” position and test your code. This is how I solved the same problem for me. Hope it works for you.
