Remove the 2 screws from the bottom of the base, release the 4 clips on each side and remove the bottom cover.
There is a fan blade attached to the bottom of the motor and a sensor on the side of it that senses the fan blade turning. If the sensor does not sense the fan blade turning, it assumes that the motor is locked up or 'overloaded'.
Check that the fan blade has not come loose from the motor shaft and reattach if necessary. Verify that the sensor is secure in it's housing next to the fan blade.
Reinstall the base cover and verify operation.

You don't say what is making them stick together or what you've tried to do. Gentle heat is usually helpful and sometimes hot water can dissolve the "glue" that's causing the problem. If the pitcher is used for sweetened drinks or if it is a small pitcher used for milk or cream, the hot water can do the trick.

The bearing and seal are not replaceable. The bearing is sonically welded into thte base of the jar. The K-Tec is made by Blend-Tec, and any of the Blend-Tec jars will work as a direct replacement.

A small appliance that smokes is a symbol of "needs replacement
It is unsafe and can cause a short circuit on your electrical system that will cost you more than 20 blenders to fix. I just wouldn't use it, something similar happened to me with another small appliance and the deal ended up costing me $6500 in electrical wiring for the kitchen. Think about it.

There are a couple of problems concerning the buttons from over a year ago on the net, and they were never answered, which means, usually, that the unit was not repaired due to cost or inconvenience, or both. Your best bet is to contact the manufacturer on the literature that came with the machine, and see what they say. I couldn't find any troubleshooting advice or parts for these on the net, so not sure they can be customer serviced.

Had this happen twice before. The bearings in the blade area are going. We figured that in our dishwasher the heated water pools on the top by the bearings and as it cools water is brought in contact with the bearings and they rust. We have used penetrating oil to put a pool of oil around the bearing shaft and store it like that. Still noisy but cheaper than buying the replacement. Hand wash the blender to avoid this happening to your new one if and when you replace it.
