HP photosmart C4480 printer cartridge incompatible error
Well....I solved the problem......bought a new Canon printer!!
I tried everything...unplugging, cleaning everything that was mentioned above. I was onto HP online support several time, but they were absolutely no help at all...they basically told me that the cartridge must be damaged or ink dried up and to buy a new cartridge to see if the error persisted.....I don't think so!!!
I will never by HP again after having issues with the last two I have had. I love my new Canon printer it is EVERYTHING that HP wasnt.

what in the world is c440, nobody ever heard of it.
I moved you to 4480 as guess, try get the model correct first.
my wild guess the ending zero missing C4400. right?
same answer on all pC made
what OS, you never told what PC you have nor what OS it runs
windows, if yes, windows what. ?
1: running virus infected XP windows. fail. as all do now, XP
2: not having a working USB port, does a mouse work on the same port? as a test??????
3: then load the HP full software pack for that printer.
4: ever heard of HP. (we are fixya not HP)?

My printer is printing grey instead of black on my
No, the water has nothing to do with it. Somewhere in a print dialog or perhaps in the printer driver, something changed to grey.
Try printing an ordinary black text document. Before you click "Print", look for "properties" or "Printer setup". Somewhere in there something got changed. Perhaps you can find a "default" button in a dialog box to restore the printer to factory settings.
MIGHT help (probably not) to shut down the Mac, power down the printer, and then start both up. Just an idea.

Not grabbing paper during printing
There are two levers that release pressure when you get a paper jam. They are normally green and at the inner edge of where the paper goes in or comes out.
Has it worked before or was it like this out of the box? Did you read the quick set up guide. There are lots of things that have to be removed. Not had an HP for a while now.
