Top 20 ASUS Eee PC 900 16G Notebook Questions & Answers

it is telling you it could not process past BIOS to get to the windows power shell(windows actual operating system). If you do not have the factory windows disks follow the prompt and keep tapping F2 up and down until you see a window appear with usually options such as open from cd rom or hard disk.If you are not computer literate at this point power down the system and wait 20 seconds and power it back up while at the same time pushing the F8 key . This is considered SAFE MODE...can produce a list as well of options but look for -continue in safe mode- when you enter the computer will continue to windows powershell and will open to your main screen ..things will look a little different but it will function normally..when you are on go to the control panel and look for devices and click it...it will populate a list of everything your computer needs to run ...if you see something in the list with yellow triangles red exclamation marks..these are things that must be addressed..in order to correct the problem..At this point it is usually drivers have been lost to devices...but why? Usually you will find it is because of some crazy spyware or malware..which has infected your windows directory..if you have an Antivirus program run it ASAP..if not you can have one installed at a computer shop along wit h a complete new operating system which is the worse case scenario..40 to 60.00...easiest option get on the web and type FREE avg or avast and download it then run it...hope this helps some how...good luck

Few computer problems are more frustrating than a laptop that refuses to boot, as troubleshooting becomes infinitely more difficult when you are unable to get into the operating system. By understanding the common causes of laptop booting problems, you may be able to spare yourself the cost of paying an electronics store by resolving the issue on your own.
Laptop computer
Error Messages
If a laptop is unable to boot, there will usually be an error message giving you some idea of the problem's cause. Read this error message to know where to begin in the troubleshooting process. Some common error messages seen on laptop computers during the booting process include "NTLDR" messages, which deal with the operating system, and messages relating to the hard drive and the power supply.

Identifying a Software Issue
If a laptop has trouble booting and displays error messages generated by Windows, the cause is often a failed driver installation or other change that rendered the computer unstable. This type of issue can often be resolved by starting Windows in safe mode, then using the System Restore utility to roll the computer back to the previous configuration. If an external peripheral was recently added to your laptop, such as an external DVD drive, try booting the laptop with the device disconnected, then reconnecting it once Windows is fully loaded.

Identifying a Hardware Issue
Random booting issues on a laptop--those that seem to come and go with no explanation--are often caused by a problem with the hardware. Other symptoms of a possible hardware issue include a system that does not get past the POST screen (the initial monochrome screen displayed when the unit is turned on), or an error message containing the word SMART (this refers to an internal health monitoring system used by hard drives).

Identifying a Heat Issue
For all electronics, heat can be a killer. Heat-related issues can be caused by using the laptop in an unsafe way (such as by putting the laptop on a surface that blocks the air intake port), or by dust building up inside the cooling system. An unacceptable level of noise emanating from the cooling can generally signify that the cooling system needs to be cleaned in order to prevent a more serious issue. If a laptop has a booting problem that only tends to arise after the machine has been in use for extended periods, heat is likely to be the cause.

Prevention/Solution
Do not neglect your laptop's power supply. Laptop power supplies are often quite fragile, and are susceptible to damage from heat (exacerbated by being trapped under a desk or chair) as well as damage to the shielding surrounding the cable. Problems caused by a faulty power supply are often not instantaneous; it can take time for a power-related issue to become evident. To avoid booting problems that may be caused by a power issue, replace your laptop's power supply at the first sign of physical damage.

I hope you find it very helpful. Thank you.

In very simple terms your HD is corrupt and will have to be cleared and reinstalled completely. I recommend taking it to a service center.

OK, here is what you need to do, you need to get a USB - DVD dongle, either SATA or IDE. Similar to this at this link. http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-2-0-TO-SATA-IDE-ADAPTER-CABLE-4-DVD-CD-HARD-DRIVE_W0QQitemZ220544495390QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_2?hash=item335979ef1e#ht_4098wt_1152 Get your recovery DVD, put it into the DVD. Then, set the eeepc to "BOOT" from removeable media. The PC should then boot of the DVD and you can then install OR repair the install. I have included a link that gives you a step by step. http://www.sampletheweb.com/2008/01/05/installing-windows-xp-on-the-asus-eee-pc/

You possibly could connect it to a monitor or tv to see if it shows up on there. But, yea sounds like you have an internal problem with the screen disconnected.

Hi,
To resolve your issue you would be required to restart your computer.
A screen would come press f9 repeatedly until a black screen comes up with 3 choices
click 3rd choice
Maybe you can reinstall back your windows

If that does not work, then use the cd that was provided in the box. Put it in external cd drive boot up while holding F7, press any key afterward... This will help the clean install to perform better with minimized error
Please let me know if the provided information has been helpful.

2 problems, your using a netbook that doesnt have an optical drive (cd/dvd) and you need a windows cd.
I dont think there is anything you can do until you call your retailer and request a copy of windows cd.
After that you can do a windows repair. Use the link below to see you options for accessing the cd once you have it.
