Generally, most "System Recovery" processes involve re-imaging the system from a stored backup image of the system. This process normally overwrites the entire HDD including your data. So before running a recovery, I'd backup anything important.

It's possible that the disk-drive inside the computer has failed.
So, the copy of Windows stored on the disk-drive cannot be read, and Windows cannot start-up.

Take the computer to a qualified technician, for trouble-shooting (which may include replacing the disk-drive).

Is it still under warranty? (Was it purchased with a credit-card that automatically doubles the length of the warranty?)

Shouldn't have to do much. I bought my daughteran ASUS Eee netbook with XP on it and it immediately connected to my wireless. Shouldn't be anything special to the settings unless you have specified these in your network settings on the router. If everything is set to default on the router, you should be able to connect with ease. I would enable WEP security on the router though.

Perhaps you can check your manual. Many notebook keys do not function as expected. If you do not have the manual, you may download one here:

If there is no power at all , check the power adapter connector.

Most EEE adapters are connected to main by a power cord, ensure that power cord is well plugged into socket on power adapter box.

Try disconnecting adapter and removing battery. connect back the adapter and try starting it with no battery.

If still no luck, then the power adapter can be tested using a multimeter.

In that case, before replacing the part I suggest calling Asus at the number listed on the manual.

Note: If the netbook has power, but there is no boot screen, and the hard disk has no activity, then it is usually a fried motherboard.

Try removing battery for one minute to reset the Asus.
