The troubleshooting instructions (link here)

http://www.kwikset.com/Customer-Support/Product-FAQs/Faq/50160000000HifLAAS.aspx

will tell you that you will get a series of quick beeps when the batteries are installed correctly and making good contact.Conversely, the low battery indicator light on the power board will be lit when the batteries need replacement. Kwikset recommends that you use four quality alkaline AA batteries.
Also, Kwikset recommends that if your Powerbolt is beeping, that you take out the batteries and remove the powerstrip. Let it sit for one minute, then put the batteries back in and wait for another minute. If it does not beep, as in above for battery replacement, then the keypad needs to be replaced. If the unit beeps, then the powerboard needs to be replaced.
Is it at all possible that, when you replaced the batteries, you did not get the orientation correct for one or more of the batteries? Did you use new, brand-name alkaline batteries?
So, I've taken you through the steps that a Customer Service Rep is going to ask you before you make a call. If the problem still persists, then it's time to make that call. The number is 800 327-5625, Mon.-Sat. between 7:30-4:00. Pacific coast time. They should be able to assist you further with troubleshooting and parts.

Good luck-and please provide feedback if this helps!

First, remove the cover on the inside of the Powerbolt . On the right-hand side under the batteries, you will notice that it says" Door Direction Jumper". If the jumper is mounted on pins 1 & 2, then move it to pins 2 & 3. Or if it's already on @ & #, move it to pins 1 & 2.

Yeah, I've seen so many problems with this lock that I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
I can't help you directly, but I can direct you to Kwikset's customer service contacts. I'm sure they can assist you:

I suggest changing the batteries and reprogramming the lock.
Under normal circumstances you do not need to reprogram the lock after changing batteries, but I would do it anyway. It seems to be acting like it doesn't recognize your code.
Also, you should check the alignment of the door lock to the door frame strike plate, using the manual turnlock(T-turn) to check it. If the door is misaligned, make necessary adjustment to deadbolt strike location and/or hole in door jamb to allow the deadbolt latch to retract and extend freely.
Test your lock after programming for proper operation with the door open so that you can watch it cycle.

If, after the battery change and reprogramming you lock is still not working properly, it's time to call Kwikset Customer Service and let them help you, since new parts may be in order.

One final note: I recently helped someone else with a Powerbolt that would not fully extend and retract--he thought it was an electronic problem at first. Then he removed the deadbolt assembly and found, in his words, "the deadbolt is ensconced with a plastic sleeve when it retracts into the latch housing. The sleeve is shattered and most likely to be the cause of its malfunction." Something else to look at!

Good luck--and please provide feedback if this helps!

You did not indicate whether this is a new installation or a problem that has developed over time. More about this later.
Here is a link to the installation instructions for your reference:

If you are not able to view it, you will need to install Adobe Reader on your computer. You can get the free installation download here:

http://get.adobe.com/reader/

If this is a new installation or you have disassembled the lock, you may not have the "backset" set properly for your installation. The backset is the distance between the edge of the door and the center of the hole for the lockset. You can see this illustrated on page 2 of the installation instructions. Note that the lock is adjustable for a backset of 2 3/8" or 2 3/4"--a difference of 3/8"!
So this MAY be your problem if it is not adjusted correctly.

Don't despair if you check all of this out and are satisfied that the lock had been correctly installed but that the problem still remains. The lock should be warrantied against mechanical defects. Here's the relevant part of the warranty statement:

"This product comes with a lifetime mechanical and finish warranty to the original residential user of Kwikset against defects in material and workmanship as long as the original user occupies the residential premises upon which the product was originally installed. One year electronic warranty. This warranty DOES NOT COVER scratches; abrasions; deterioration due to the use of paints, solvents or other chemicals; abuse; misuse; or product(s) used in commercial applications. Upon return of a defective product to Kwikset Corporation, Kwikset may repair or replace the product or refund the purchase price." Yada yada yada...

Note that the warranty covers mechanical defects, not electronic defects, and your problem sounds like a mechanical one to me.

So, I recommend that you contact Kwikset Customer Service if you find that you've installed everything correctly and determined that the mechanism has become defective. Here is the contact information:

You should be able to cajole them into standing behind their product and warrantying your lock.

They usually respond within 24 hours. The first thing they will tell you is to change the batteries. Next they will ask you to re-set your security codes.

This isn't about money for me. I just want to get you to the people that can really resolve your problem as soon as possible.

Thanks,

I think that you lockset is not set up for the proper "handing" of the door; that is, are the hinges on the left or right as you face the door from the outside. Although is see on the Kwikset website that the Powerbolt can be changed, I did not find out how to do it. I suggest that you call their Customer Service and they should be able to explain how to change it over. Here's the link:

I've included a link to the installation instructions for your lock:

http://s7d5.scene7.com/is/content/BDHHI/40486-02

I would pull and replace the batteries with new ones (step8, page 5) first. Take care in the battery orientation.

Pay close attention to step 9 on page 6 as well. Programming instructions are on page 6 & &.  Good luck!
