Question about GE Home Security

1 Answer

I have GE NX-6 with two keypads(NX-1308E). The power just went out completely to the whole system, and the siren went off. I had to unplug the siren wire from the control board to shut it. I replaced the back up battery, but no help.

there is 16.5v AC at the ac terminal on the control board. I don't know where the fuse is on the control panel. and If it is bad, how can I fix it? and where to buy part? I try to upload the picture, But I still can't get it work. I'm very familiar with the electronic parts, if I know what is wrong, I think I can replace it.

I did send you the picture of the control panel. and I don't see any Rectifier like the one you send me on that board,Is the Rectifier normally labelled with 'D'? If I fixed this board, will it still work with the two keypads I had? Or If I buy a brand new board, will it work with the two keypads? Or I have to have the original code to program the keypads to work with new board?

You have to check the fuse inside the system . If there is any power surge happened then there is a chance for fuse become faulty. As you mentioned it would be a power side problem. first of check the fuse inside the system. Also you have to check the 16.5V transformer which provides the working voltage to the sysatem when it is line. If need any more assistance from me then you can contact me through fixya. One more thing is if can add any picture of the cotrol panel circut board then it will be very helpfull.

If you can upload a photo of the circuit board in side the panel then it will, be very helpfull. Will give you my email id you can sent the same to that.

If the power supply is working the LEDs in the panel should lite. 16.5V ac supply will goto a rectifier circuit which will convert it in to dc voltage. That DC volatge will go to the regulator circuit and battery chaging circuit. Check the DC out put at the pin of bridge rectifier + and - pins. Also you hve to check is the battery is charging or not. You can check it very easly. Check the volatge of battery when the panel is connected to the power line. The battery voltage should increase upto 13.8V gardually. If it is still reading 12V then you hve to chek the poaer supply first. Have added the picture of bridge rectifier. There will 16.5V ac accross the AC pins and 20V to 26V dc across the pins Negative and positive

The rectifier diode will be there. My be in your board it will be SMD type. the connector to which the transformers is connectred will staraightly go to the rectifier diode.Yoy hve to trace the track from the connector. If it is a multilayer pcb then it will make dificalty to trace the track. May be the diode will be on the othre side of the board. I didn't receive any picture from you. You only will get a new board from GE. You have to tell them about the configartion and also about the key pad. They wil give a baord porgamed for the same. ok

Need Manuel for GE security keypad model # 422-2195 REV B

I don't think we will be able to locate a manual just for the keypad - is there a name or model # for the entire system? Like an NX-# or a Caddx designation?

Keypad message reading 12volt low battery on three wireless zones. changed out all batteriies and still getting message.

This could be referring to your battery backup for the control panel. Make sure your battery connections are secure and check the batteries' voltage with a multimeter. If it is showing less than 12 volts and has been connected to the control panel for more than 24 hours, the battery is bad and needs replacement. Contact your local alarm company and ask them verify the battery is bad, and they can install a new one for you right then.

If the power was out for 5 hours and the control panel still shows 'low battery', it's probably time to replace the battery for the control panel. However, this shouldn't keep the alarm panel from arming up. I would first try to re-start the control panel by removing the power and battery connection for a few seconds and plugging it back in. After that, it would be a good idea to re-enroll all of your attached sensors, etc. by entering into programming mode and exiting. Press * 8 + {go code} then just press exit. The default 'go' code is 9713. After about 15 seconds, the panel will have auto-enrolled each attached device. Try arming and disarming the panel. Be careful of setting off the alarm, as your monitoring station may dispatch police, etc. in the event of alarm. This is why having a certified alarm installer do this work is a good idea, as they can put your account with the monitoring station on 'test' so alarm signals are recorded for testing purposes but are not acted upon.

It might not hurt to try the "Microsoft Solution" and reboot the system. First disconnect the AC power then disconnect the battery. Wait 1 minute then reconnect the battery and reconnect the AC power.See ifyou can arm and disarm the system. Then reconnect the siren and try again to arm and disarm the panel. If the keypads beep it can usually give you an error code that will help you pinpoint the problem.

I really wouldn't be too concerned about it happening again. I've been in the security business for over 30 years and while I see systems "glitching up" such as yours, it is rare that this happens. However, if it happens again, I would get someone to take a look at it. Sometimes glitches are caused by not grounding the control panel properly. I have found over the years many security system installers fail to or don't take the time to ground their systems. So, if this happens again have someone who knows what they are doing come out and take a look at it.
