Question about Lexmark Interpret S405 Wireless All-in-One InkJet Printer

Lexmark S405 won't print or copy in color. Ran utilities, cleaning print heads etc. Only when I physically unplugged it did color show up on the one printer head cleaning page but when I align printer nothing but grays on print out. My color cartridges are full.

Please visit the Lexmark support page to determine if your printer is affected with the printhead issue. Also, make sure your printer is updated. The firmware update will help give you a highly reliable print system.

  • Well, Lexmark has failed twice here, first by having an ink-sucking printer that clearly has a colour problem and second by making you work too hard for the solution. To download new firmware you will need to have hours on end to work out which exact model your S405 printer is. (I am still trying) You'd think they could add software that works it out for you but instead it tells you to go to Control Panel and find something that isn't there.

S405 printer won't communicate with computer when trying to print

First, make sure that the firmware of your printer is up to date. Just go to to download the firmware update.

If the firmware update doesn't help, try to uninstall the Lexmark driver and download an updated driver online at Just choose the Operating System of your computer.

Also, if your printer is connected to your network, try to set a static IP to your printer to prevent it from getting a different IP.

Lexmark S405 isn't printing color when I just bought new cartridges.

Make sure that you're using genuine Lexmark cartridges. Also, check if the firmware of your printer is up to date. Just go to to download the firmware update.

Performing a maintenance on the cartridges would also help. To do that, on the control panel of your printer, press on Setup > Maintenance > Deep Clean Printhead.

Why won't my Lexmark 5600- 6600 Series Printer print in color?

It could be the print setting on the application where you're printing from. Before you send your print job and hit "Print" button on your computer, check in the Printing Preferences and make sure it is not set to print "Using black ink only.".

Lexmark X75 won't print in color. Tried cleaning print heads, didn't work. What now?

Inkjet printers need to be used frequently to prevent inkdrying out in the print head nozzles.
If the print head cleaning maintenance routine does not clear the blockages,then print head needs replacing, but it may be expensive.
It may be more cost effective to buy a later model and better printer thanreplace the print head.

I have a lexmark s405 and it does not print in color. Only the black shows up on the printed pages. I have cleaned the nozzles and ran all the diagnostic tests and replaced the ink cartridges with brand...

This is unfortunate with Lexmarks I have one its a 3500 series did the same exact thing what i had to do was buy a new print head for it. It cost me $45 bucks when I purchased it.

The nozzle, print head in the carriage was so clogged that it just needed replacement.

I hope this is not your case but it was mine and that is why I am leaving this with you.

also if you used refilled cartridges and then went back to the originals your going to need to purchase what I told you regardless.

We hate referring you back to the manufacture because they just going to rob you into thinking you have to purchase a whole new printer and that is not the case. all you need is the carriage that reads the print cartridge "print head".
