Question about HHB BurnIt CDR830 CD Recorder

1 Answer

Hi, I have an HHB Burn-It CDR 830. Whenever I'm recording, along about the 5th track in- the player starts to fuzz out. The time stutters/freezes momentarily, and then continues normally for a while before this happens again. It manifests back on the cdr with white noise intermittently and a skipping in the program. I've tried cleaning the lense with a q-tip to no avail. Any suggestions?

If it's always around the same physical location on a given CD it would have to be a physical problem with the transport, not the lens.

Esoteric but comprehensive advice....

HHB CDR 850-No laser lit up...shouldn;t there be light ie. laser

YesI when the unit is first turned on the laser will emit a red light when scaning, if no beam is present it is time to replace your player, not cost effective to repair.

Hi , My cdr 830 stopped recording at maximum fidelity, and most recently all data disappears upon finalization, the prompt reading "new disc" after recording a whole 70 plus cd. Frustrating...

I can't speak to the hardware issues that might be at play here but I would advise you to retain the 'bad' recordings. I've copied unfinalized CD's from an old DVD player. It will read the CD but you won't be able to manuever around the tracks. As I recall, the track marks will still be there.

I don't know what you mean by 'maximum fidelity'. The CDR records at the CD standard of 44.1kHz. Digital is all ones and nones. Just data. If it is written correctly or with tolerable errors the ADC of the player (ANY player) turns it all into music.

What does pma rec mean on the hhb cbr 830 ? it just stops recording

The recorder is writing TOC data to the disc's PMA (Program Memory Area). Never turn off the power while this display is
showing.

Can't finalize after recording, disc error

So are they always CD-RW?

I have a Pioneer PD509 which is a spittin' image of the HHB CDR830 but tied down to use CD-Audio discs only.

My experiece with Rewriteable Media has been that they don't hold up to multiple uses. I used them to make quick 'n' dirty dubs of cassette audio then worked it into a polished copy with proper track marks and sweetening later for copy over to a CD-RA. After a few passes I'd start getting audible problems when copying off the -RW's, so I routinely just use them about 5 times. With two DVD players and a Blu-Ray I sometimes get through the errors on one of them for one final digital copy and then I can them.

BTW: you may want to try the failing disc in a DVD player. Mine will play through an unfinalized CD but can't cue up to anything. So if the recording is vital you might retrieve it that way. Just remember to pause the Recorder at the end of the last cut you want because the DVD will just crash right into the old data without changing track numbers or any warning.

Pause/resume function in analogue, manual recording mode

This player has essentially the same guts as my Pioneer PDR-509, so this is what it means...

'Repair' means the player lost power in mid-recording without commiting the track memory to a table of contents. It would likely take up to 40 minutes for the player to reconstruct it from the disk.

There is NO reason the player need be turned off (if that's where it took you) for a track pause.

Just press Pause, flip the LP over and hit Play or Pause again when you wish to continue recording.

Perhaps you don't know how to Finalize the disc either. It's not that intuitive. Press Finalize, after a while it will display a time, like 4:07. That means how long it will take to do the operation. Now press Pause and it will count down to 0:00 and be done. Then you can play it on any other CD player.

Anytime I try to record with my HHD BurnIT cdr 830, the red record light will only be bleeping and the time counter will not work as well. And there will be nothing recorded on the cd.

Just a guess, but did you ever try to hit the record a second time once you're all set up to start? The first press of the record button places the machine in record/pause mode after it calibrates itself to the disc.

HHB burn it...I record on coaxial from Tascam DAT. 1st five tracks are great but the 6th track sounds horrible like there is a scratchy sounding distorted delay. It does this every once in the while . What...

I had this happen a lot on my Pioneer PDR-509, which is pretty much the same machine, when using marginal mongrel-brand CDR's. It's annoying but I have seen nothing to explain or detect it in real time so something can be re-recorded.

HHB-830 CD TRAY does NOT open.

It's made for HHB by Pioneer, you could try one of their agents?. Opening up is fairly straightforward if you are methodical and take your time if you need to. There is a test mode sequence you can try - hold down the 'menu/delete' and 'auto/manual' keys together for 5 seconds until the display blinks all the lights then press the stop button. Now ONLY press the open / close button - pressing any other keys will change settings and without the service manual you won't know what you're changing. Press stop then power it off to exit.

I can email you the service manual if you need it. It sounds like a gear has come loose inside to me. I strip these machines for parts quite regularly so may be able to help you out if you're able to work out what if anything is broken but I'm in the UK. It may be as simple as a belt has come loose :-)
