I have a pair of KLH AV5001 speakers and I have them hooked up, there is sound but it's distorted and there's zero base, an instruction manual or any advice would be great, thank you.

Without knowing what they're hooked up too.. SOUNDS like your uder powering them, OR over powering them. Look at the back of the speakers the wattage is what your looking for, look at your amp, example: 1000w speaker running on 50w amp = not good.

Klh powered subwoofer model ASW10-120B... when you plug in to power... it makes a loud buzzing/humming noise

I would check the caps on the power supply. They are rather large electrolytic capacitors that will look like they burst and/or leaking. When these die, the caps ground and the sub will make a loud buzzing sound. If you are handy with a soldering iron you can replace them yourself. Replace them with the same voltage or a little bigger and same with the size.

If the cap. says 16v 4700pF on it, for example, a 20v 5300pF or a 16v 6200mF cap. will work for this application.

Wrap a wire around the outside Metal of your rca jack in back of your radio and ground the other end of that wire to the back of your radio and the noise goes away

KLH HPS 1100 powered subwoofer. as soon as plugged into AC we get a loud hum from spkr. had unit for 8yrs.

Hum usually indicates a power supply problem. If it has an internal supply you will need someone to check it's producing clean DC. Alternatively if you do open it (beware risk of shock!!) initially visually check condition of /replace any bulging electrolytic capacitors.

Loud hHum from Subwoofer

Sounds like the hum might be mains hum caused by the failure of the power supply capacitor(s) in the sub. It/they will be the largest on the pc board. You will find all the details (needed to replace it) on them. If you find more than one replace both.

Loud humming buzzing sound coming from subwoofer

make sure you have the speaker connection right if you do then it is a ground problem try plugging it in a different outlet

No base

Problems like this are usually the result of one of two conditions, the lack of a properly grounded phono cable connection at either the amplifier or the sub. To help isolate this problem, try plugging the end that goes to the amp into a jack such as the Tape Out. If the hum goes away then there is a problem with the sub out. If the humming doesn't change then it is either the cable or the Sub itself.
The other condition is what is known as a difference in ground potential between the amp and the sub. If both components have grounded (3-pin) plugs you may have to isolate the ground of the sub by using a 2 to 3 prong adapter and ground the sub to your receiver.

Audio receiver!

When I watch movies, most of the talking is directed to the center speaker. During surround sound, this gives a more realistic environment, with voices coming from the source (center where your tv is) and ambeint noise coming from the left/right corners.

Get a small center speaker to solve your problem.
