I have a Dell All-In-One 948 InkJet Printer and when I fax or copy I get a black line down the page. It doesnt do the black line when I print from the computer. Is this something that can be corrected? Thanks.

When I fax I just lay the original on the glass, same with copy. It actually is printing the black line on the paper. Same width and density from top to bottom. Cleaned and aligned the cartridges using the features on the printer. The light looks good the entire length.

Clean the paper path for the scan/fax portion. The original goes in and as the document is "read" a spot of dirt is causing the black line down the page because it is picked up in the copy area.

As I understand, you have a flat bed multi function inkjet device. It prints ok but when you use the flatbed to scan or fax you have a line down the page.
If the paper does not move against the glass like an automatic document feeder and, the light looks ok, you have an optical receptor out on the scanner.(that arm that travels across the device with the bright light.
You can try to open the case and clean off the light bar and receptors but, I don't hold out much hope for that. Tood luck.

Leave the cover up and run a 'copy.' Look closely at the fluorescent scanner light and note if it seems equally bright from end to end.
If it does, the photo-assembly that acts as an image receiver is probably sick.
If it is, with the labor cost and potential non-availability of parts, you might be better off replacing it unless still under warranty.

This might not be the issue but I had a similar problem when I first got the printer. Open the top-( where the ink is loaded), look at the back on the right there is a small bus cable ( flat wire usually white) make sure it is pulled in all the way into the top. Be carefull as the prongs can break. This took care of my clicking clacking when the machine came on.
Good luck

the fault is a mark on the glass over which the paper passes when being copied. it is the rectangular glass that is probably only 1cm wide but the full A4 length across the screen. Clean the mark off this thoroughly and voila, fixed.

Dear Donna,
When a document is scanned from the top portion of the printer, it will loop around and output from underneath. The scanning glass on the far left side will have some debris on it. Lift the the lid exposing the glass portion, inspect for "stuff" on the glass, perhaps pen or white out. You can use a mild soap and lightly dampened cloth to remove any debris.
Good Luck,
Pre

When I scan from the flat scanner of my AIO 948, the 1st pg frequently comes out with a retangular black area & when I scan from the auto-feeder, it has a line down the right side.

I've got exactly the same problem and am fearing that it is the bulb. The scanner glass is clean, and everything is connected and wroking correctly except for the annoying black lines. It is even worse when I try to make copies of something.

On sending a fax the receiver copy has a black

You must clean the glass strip that the origional passes over to be scanned. You may have White-Out or an Ink smuge on it. Another way to determine if it is your FAX is to put in an original and make a copy. If the line is on your copy than it is your scanner **** (glass).

Dell 948 printer. Black(2 inch) Vertical lines when I print

You need to check the glass for any white-out or other smears that don't belong, if the glass is clean then the scan assembly has elements that are burned out which will cause dark streaks.

Dell 948 printer- won't print in black and white

I had this problem. It's actually very easy to fix:

- Click Print -> Properties
- Go to "Advanced" tab
- "More options"
- Deselect "Use color cartridge for all black printing"
- Select "Use black cartridge to print black and white"
- Click "Ok"

You should be able to select the "Print in black and white" option now and stop all the frustration!
