    Same issue. I've tried all the things I've found on the bet so far without luck. One I haven't tried is removing the battery(?) from the printer that supposedly stores info about the print cartridges already used. Can't figure out how to get the cover off, but not sure the battery thing really exists anyway/

    We have the same problem with both cartidges in a Lex X4580. Suddenly the existing cartridges produce error messages of "Invalid" and "Incorrect". Changing the carts. does not solve. All the "remove power" instructions from the User guide do not help. However, the unit can detect when no carts are installed.

    I have the same problem..i tryed rubbing it with acohol, both the cartridge and the printer contact points..made sure they were alligned..but still Nothing..If anyone has a good solution please message.

    I am having the same problem. I put the old cartridge back in, and it works. I put in the new one which is exactly the same, and it keeps saying cartridge incorrect.

    I have a X3430 All-In-One Printer. You insert a new Cartridge and we have the message Cartridge Incorrect. You put in the old one and it works fine. I tried one one your solutions and it doesn't work. It states that if that solution doesn't work it's a "hardware" issue and that I need to contact Lexmark technical support. I don't think so. If you have one cartridge that works fine and then another doesn't, it has nothing to do with my hardware.

First of all. take all of the ink cartridge out of the printer. use an acohol pad or coffee filter clear all the contact on the printer. make sure that the contact are clean and can move freely.
next clean the ink cartridge contact point.
reinsert the ink cartidge. make sure tehy do make a good contact with the pins.

Ive tried removing the right cartridge so I can print in black, but now , once I refilled the black one, it wont even let me print black!! this is desperate; can anyone help?

Lexmark has never approved the use of anyone else's ink for their printers primarily because there is no way to prove the quality of the ink.

Left Cartridge Incorrect / Right Cartridge Incorrect
  1. Remove the indicated print cartridge.
  2. Disconnect the power cord from the electrical outlet.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the electrical outlet.
  4. If the button_power_0.jpg button is not lit, press button_power_0.jpg.
  5. Reinsert the print cartridge.
  6. If the error:
    • Does not reappear, the problem has been corrected.
    • Reappears, replace the print cartridge with a new one.

My dell 924 printer shows right cartridge incorrect and I just had both cartridges refilled what is wrong?


I purchased remanufactured ink cartridges through amazon.com. I got 4 for the price of 1 through Dell. After installing the first cartridge, it printed for a few days and then I got the same message "left cartridge incorrect". Unfortunately, I did not read the piece of paper that came with my cartridge that says "STOP" read this before you install the cartridge.
I had to throw out the cartridge that I had just installed and put in a new one and follow these steps:
1. If you recieve a pop-up message indicating that the cartridge has been depleted or a low ink level warning, please disregard.
2. Check "Don't display this dialog again" and click "ok" or "continue printing" if necessary.
3. In the printer status window, since you have already ordered ink, do not click the "order ink online" button. If you have the option, check "I have ordered my ink, please don't remind me again." If not, close the window and continue printing.

I'm not sure why, but these instructions were vital to getting my remanufactured cartridges to work.

I am posting this reply to hopefully help out the next person that has this problem. Unfortunately, I lost a perfectly good ink cartridge because I failed to read the instructions the first time. But the next one worked just fine when I followed the instructions. Good luck!

Lexmark X4530 Incorrect Cartridges.


By any chance did you get these cartridges refilled? If so then you may be out of luck as I read that Lexmark chip their cartridges/printers to reject refilled cartridges. I have the same problem at the moment just with the right (colur) cartridge. The cartridge is an original refillable Lexmark (i.e. grey box) I got the cartridge refilled twice and it worked fine, but the third time no joy. Research indicate that Lexmark program their printers to reject cartridges refilled 3 times!!

It seems like you are using incorrect printer cartridges.....

Make sure that part number on ink cartridges should be :

Printer says right cartridge incorrect. I know it's correct.


try cleaning the brown dotted circuit of both printer and cartridge. and then insert both the cartridge 1 by 1 and then check.

or sometimes it shows --replace left cartridge --- but both the cartridges are faulty and so its not working.

Printer reads RIGHT CARTRIDGE INCORRECT


If you have purchased the cartridges directly from dell , it will be covered under warranty for 2 years for hardware errors and you can call dell on 1800 624 9896 and get the cartridge replaced , even after the replacement of the cartridges if you have the similar issue then its an issue with the printer and needs to be replaced.
