Question about Sony STR-DB940 Receiver
Most likely a cold solder joint somewhere in the audio circuit. Most likely on the legs of the relay that turns the speakers on or off. Also check the connections at the audio outputs. Give it a good look over for bad solder connections, given the symptoms that's 98% likely to be the problem.

Hi I have a similar sort of problem I have little sound coming out of the left front speaker I have changed the fronts over but it is the same the only time the system works is if I use optical or coaxial inputs it seems as if the left side of all the phono input sockets don’t work.
In my case the rear speakers go in and out. There is the same clicking noise like a circuit breaker is clicking on and off. Wire connections are good. When the rear speakers go out, even the speaker test won't activate them.
Hello,
just got the same problem (after some weeks of clicks now no more sound whatsoever). I've got the device open and in front of me, multimeter in hand. Can anybody help me and tell me where/what exactly to measure to find the problem and fix it?
Thanks in advance,
pro
