Question about RCA HD52W59 HDTV Projection Television
I just got my new RCA TV Model # L42FHD37YX7 Serial I 166CUOOU
I do have a 120 dollar antenna out doors on a tower 40 ft high.
They run a test the other day, and it said my tv not ready for DTV.
The same day that afternoon they run another test, I hooked a box to the TV, and it worked, but the sound was weak, had turn the vol. way up . need help.
You have an awesome antenna - every one should have one like it!
An antenna that used to work with the older analog signals will work with the digital ones. What you have to remember is that analog systems though subject to ghosting, were brutes signal wise ala the metal on older cars. Digital signals are frail and even tree leaves in between the antenna and transmitter can have adverse effect on signal received.
If the sound is weak on your set that is a function of your sets audio section. Somewhere you are losing gain and/or amplification. If you have an audio output you might consider hooking that up to one of the audio inputs on audio receiver. It will work fine and that is what I did with my unit.

SOURCE: Weak Signal ..
Sounds like you have a bad tuner. The most likely cause on these RCA's is a loose RF antenna input connector. A bypass for now is if you have a VCR use it as the tuner and then connect it to the TV using the composite video inputs. If that faisl as well then you have a bad signal board.

You are right, the Guide Plus is transmitted to your tv over the air. If you have a cable company supplying your programs, your Guide Plus will not receive a signal to set up. You will need to get a two-way splitter. It has two connections on one side and one on the other. The side that has one connection goes to your tv. The side that has two connections will connect to your cable supplier and the other to a rabbit ear or outside antenna. Then the tv has to be off over night to restore your Guide Plus.

SOURCE: D52W20 RCA
There is a common problem with these with a bad solder connection on the underside of the sweep board. If you can undo all the leads and turn it over you should see it. When you have the board out check for vented capacitors near the front of the board. If you find one change the other caps around it ( four all together ).
