It could be the batteries, it could be the cord, or it could be one of a dozen other things.
Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

MY SANYO S870 DIGITAL CAMERA KEEPS TAKING DARK PICTURES. IT WILL LET JUST A LITTLE BIT OF LIGHT IN AND THATS IT AND IT SHOWS MY OTHER PICTURES JUST FINE.

It is possible that the CCD- charged couple device- which is the optical unit of the camera is faulty and so does not image the prictures. Since the older pictures are seen well , the LCD display is working fine and the fault points to the CCD or the image processor circuit.
Need to take consensus before the estimate and confirmation.

I have a Sanyo digital camera but the batteries only last about 15 photos and then I get the battery low message or it switches off. If I take the batteries out and insert them again and get another 4/5...

My best guess is that you need new batteries. Even rechargeable batteries need to be replaced sometimes. I am pretty sure if you purchase new batteries for this, you will be just fine!

Hope this helps!
