I have Gigabyte GA-M61PME-S2 Motherboard with a AMD XP2500 cpu. Can i upgrade cpu to a more powerful / faster unit???

I play world of warcraft online and suffering low frame rates i have increased my ram from 2gig to 4gig and have installed a 1gig graphic card Asus V885. Would it be possible in get and install a better cpu (just plug and go?)??

SOURCE: After purchasing a new Motherboard, my computer jsut seems to power down after about 20 mins playing games on it. Other than that it is ok.

It definately sounds like a heat issue.

Did you use the thermal paste to heat sink? Make sure your fans are all running. Make sure the heat sink is snapped tight to the processor.

I would suggest a system monitor to detect heat and speed of fans.

SOURCE: graphic card for GA-8IPE1000 series

Your board has an AGP 8x inteface slot, the ATI Radeon 9550 graphics card has a RAMDAC Clock Speed of 400 MHz and 256 mb of DDR SDRAM memory onboard, would be a good upgrade, for about 60 bucks. Your board has 4 memory slots and will support up to 4 gigs of ram.(you will need a 450 watt power supply )
For best performance, memory should be installed in pairs.
CRUCIAL 2 X 1mb Part #: CT2KIT12864Z40B • DDR PC3200
would be a good choice.

Hope this helps...and answers your queastion.

SOURCE: gigabyte ga-81915 pmd motherboard/precott 3.6 cpu/upgrade cpu?

the best and cheapest up grade is RAM.
Make sure you have all the memory your machine can handle.
A quick look say it can handle Core™ 2 Extreme QX9770(3.2GHz,12 MB)
And it has a PCI-express slot so you have a big chiose of video cards. Are you using the machine for gaming?

Is a Trident TGUI9680-1 graphics card compatible for a Gigabyte GA-M61PME-S2 motherboard?

These cards were new back in 1995. It WILL work installed in one of the PCI slots, but you will probably have to settle for the default VGA drivers since there most likely won't be anything available for the newer OS's. Don't expect great video quality of fast performance either since machines of that vintage clocked around 200 Mhz, unlike the 2+ GHz machines of today. Good Luck!

I am having one long beep and two short beeps on my gigabyte m61pme-s2 motherboard when i try to boot up...

That is an error code for the video card / device.

Turn off and unplug the computer.
If possible remove and reinsert the video card.

if you have a shared video ( connected permanently attached ) remove and reinsert the memory chips.

Good Day, I have 3 motherboards (Gigabyte GA-M61PME-S2). My problem there is no display the onboard VGA, there is no beeping when i get off the memory. I tried the AMD AM3 Sempron 140 @2.7GHz and AMD AM3...

Have you updated the BIOS for the motherboard? AM3 processors don't usually work correctly in an AM2 board without a BIOS upgrade. Also, did you remember to check the BIOS to see that it was set to use the onboard VGA? Likewise when you tried the graphics card (set to PCIe)? Another thing to do is plug the monitor in a known to be good computer to make sure it's working OK, perhaps a monitor setting is misconfigured.

Try reapplying the thermal paste. Make sure it is a thin layer evenly spread across CPU. Also make sure you have good airflow through your case. And check your BIOS to make sure your fan will spin up faster to regulate temperature.
