Question about Epson Stylus Photo RX600 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Open Question

Epson RX600 ratcheting

What is the problem when Epson RX600 printer makes ratcheting noise at startup and then displays a Scanner Error (please see documentation)? The manual says to turn the unit off and then on. If the error recurs, contact an Epson dealer. The noise appears to be coming from the light bar when it tries to position itself. Sounds like the gears are slipping. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Added Note: Suggestion by Tom_Tinker was the answer. The manufacturer has a built-in stop when the machine reaches a certain number of print jobs. The machine shuts down. The answer is to reset the machine's counter.

SOURCE: clicking nosie from scanner bed on epson cx5800f

I had a similar problem, the scanner bar was stuck to the far left side. Here's how I fixed it:

1)Unplug the printer, disconnect any cables/phone lines to it.
2)Lift up the entire scanner bed housing(you will see the printer ink cartridges).
3)Locate the access patch (approx 1 cm x 1 cm square) along the left edge of the scanner bed housing(this is the side that closes in, next to the keypad buttons).
4)Using a small knife blade, peel off the patch from the corners and edges(it's sticky. Save it, you can stick it back over the hole when you're done).
5)Stick a pen through the access hole, and push the scanner bar to the right, approximately 2-3 inches.
6)Now, close the scanner housing, plug in the printer, and power it on.

It should reset and re-calibrate the scanner bar. If it doesn't, repeat steps 5) and 6) a couple times, until the printer correctly performs calibration. Then, you can put the sticky patch back over the hole, and you're ready to go. Hope this helps!

SOURCE: Paper Jam...grinding noise

The print head lock is probably not retracting. Look for the white plastic block that pokes through from the paper feed side just in front of the head. Push it in with your finger and move the head to the middle by hand. Now turn the machine on. Then turn it off using the correct method. Then turn it on once more. If it starts grinding again, you screwed the feed mechanism when tugged out the jammed paper (probably pulled it backward through the feed instead of making it go forward and out the correct exit). If this is the case, you may as well bin it. If it in warranty, you can try to get a claim for repair.

SOURCE: Epson CS3200 - Non-specific power-up failure & error message

Did what you said downloaded the Epson Utility...reset my counters......turned the PRINTER OF and then ON while holding down the Red stop button and the Green colour button at the same time...hey presto......printer works good as new...
Its criminal that Epson makes your printer fail based on the number of copies you do even tho there is no fault with the printer in the first case !!
Do you know if there is a Utility for the Epsom sx400 that i have been foced to buy due to my Red Light fault with the CX3200...cant see it on the download..??

SOURCE: Scanner mechanism stuck, making loud clicking sound

I've just got this problem after a powercut, whilst it was not being used but on. If you have only had it a few months send it in warranty.
Think I will have to take this apart and see if the scanner cable/ribbon/drive belt is caught on something or been stretched too much and can be replaced at all.
Its like at one end its caught and wont move the scanning head being stuck somehow, caught on something (doubtful tho').

Epson Stylus Photo RX600: Banging noise when turning on printer

Ok I think this is the cartridge carrier doing the banging I have had this on 2 or 3 epsons that I oncwe owned. If you clean those rails that the cartridge container slides on the banging should cease. Dont need to oil them just a damp cloth will do it. You can try sewing machine oil later. only a very small drop ( smidgen) on a cloth to wipe both rails.

Scanner is making a weird noise when printer gets switched on....

Have you looked at the paper to see if there is any stuck in the printer, other than that go and do the same thing as changing your Ink cartages but don't move any of them and set it up again and see if that works.

Hi

Open the glass cover on top of printer, check a switch for lock and unlock on left or right hand side of the printer. toggle it to unlock position, turn it back on and check if there are errors still.

Keep me posted.

Loud ratchet noise

Have you been using ink cartridges other than store bought? Reason I'm asking is that i used a refill kit, and tried those half price refill places, only to find ink was leaking out when not in use & clogged up the ends where the cartridge moves across. take a flashlight & look at the ends of the track that the cartridges slide across on, you may see a build up of ink, that won't allow the cartridge to travel as far as it needs to go to run properly.

Scanning when out of ink

I don't think the Scanner neeeds a Cartridge to Scan a Document. You should be able to scan your Document even if your Tanks ran out of Ink. Just use the same process of scanning that you used so far and will be successful to scan the Document you're about to.
If you can't do anything regarding this, contact Vendor.
