When I load the 4x6 ribbon and close the machine it gives me a "ribbon
error" and will not let me print. I opened up the package and used a
new ribbon and it gave me this error. I also tried on the other brand
new 4x6 packaged ribbon and gave me the same error. Then I tried with a
5x7 ribbon and it worked. The problem is I want to print 4x6 prints.
Can anyone help me solve this problem and if not who to contact.

some labels are hard to calibrate, nee to calibrate the sensors with manual calibration.
1} go to the MEDIA AND RIBBON CALIBRATION,
2}take 2 or 3 labels from the base paber, load the way to the based paper stay unther the sensors, 3}close printhead.
4} press ok.
5} Move the ribbon out from sensors and close the printhead.
6) press ok
7) wen printer ask RELOAD ALL, load the labels correcly and the ribbon, close the printhead and the top door, and press ok. The printer run the calibration it self.
wen finish, saved (press setub twice) and test.

If you purchased refill ribbons, follow the instructions that came with them. 4 Turn the black spool on the right clockwise to tighten the ribbon as shown. 5 Install the new print cartridge by inserting the recessed first, and then placing the cartridge into its four holders. 6 Press down on both sides of the top cover to close it securely. 7 Close the front cover. Ask the sender to make a copy to see if the problem is with the sending machine. Try receiving from another fax machine. Installation instructions will be included. If you handle the print cartridge (frame) carefully, you can reuse it until it breaks.

(take 2 or 3 labels and load the labels under the printhead and sensors, close printhead, press enter,
if ask for "take the ribbon," just open the print head, take the ribbon out from the sensors, close printhead, enter.
then if ask for load media, just put everything like you normaly setup the printer and press enter. The printer gona run the calibratio, Please close the door case, this can afect the sensors data.

The sensor on this printer is a double sensor. The side close to the frame is the head open and the one on the outside is the ribbon present. It is adjustable. They both reflect off the chrome surface of the head assy. above them. First clean the chrome surface above the sensor and test before adjusting. There is one screw that you can loose and tilt the sensor to match the angle of the chrome plate above. Also the gap between the sensor and the chrome surface is .060in. or 1.5mm.
First test this: remove the ribbon close head if the error goes away it is not your sensor. Most of the time someone has loaded the ribbon on a little to hard and broke the plastic tab that insure it loads correctly. With the tab gone you may get lucky and load it right sometimes and other times not this is why some ribbons work and some do not.
Without knowing the model number, this is pure speculation:
There are some Sony units that can easily get "out of time" in the loading mechanism. This can be caused by a broken trace in a ribbon cable or a defective sensor. Some models can get out of alignment or timing if you push the drawer rather than pushing the close button. Please update this with the model number, and I should be able to give you more details.
When you open and close the lid on this printer, it tries to realign the ribbon. If you are getting this error, I suggestion you Calibrate the print ribbon through the print driver printing preferences on the Calibrate tab.
Try going through the LCD menu and if it say "Direct Thermal" change it to "Thermal Transfer", Direct Thermal made means, no ribbon required, but it sounds like you do have ribbon in the printer, if so, try my recommendation. If it asks for a password, it's '1234'.
