Hi

The Digital Rebel XTi doesn't have 'live view' mode, you can't see what you're taking a picture of before you take the picture.

SOURCE: Canon Powershot SD 1100ES - display problems

My mother has this model camera. I believe there is a setting in the main menu that will allow an energy saving mode that sets the display time or no display. If not it's under warranty and your retailer should replace it if it is within 30 days of purcase date.

I hope this helps, goood luck!

SOURCE: Screen and viewfinder only shows black....no picture

Are the pictures also coming out black? If so, a stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open).

To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see the following for further info and a simple fix that may help:

You have a bad button board . This is a single board with a series of small button switches that control all these functions. Most repair shop will charge around 75.00 to fix.

I had the same problem. I just went into the menu under the tools tab, and clicked 'reset all' (scroll all the way to the bottom). I'm not sure what setting was changed, but my screen images all came back! (I had also switched out memory cards but that didn't seem to make a difference). I'm so glad, I love this camera and have taken many great pictures with it! Hope this works for others.........

I have had this camera just year, nothing has happened to the camera and when I turn it on the screen is just black no view at all

I had this same problem. Once I got over about 1200 pictures, the screen just turned black, and the only setting that would work where I could see the lcd screen was the easy setting. I had read somewhere that this was due to the amount of pictures the camera had "counted", even if those pictures had been downloaded and erased from the camera. So I decided to reset the camera. Go to the tools list in the menu, scroll down to "reset all", and when it prompts if you want to "reset settings to default" click ok. This worked for me, and all of my settings - sunset, landscape, etc. - now work. Keep in mind that if you have configured any parameters in any of the settings (shutter speed, lighting, etc.) those will have to be reset.

Kodak easyshare DX 7630 screen black in take a picture mode but is fine in review etc

Hey Wistra,
You could try resetting your camera to the factory settings by choosing the reset to default setting in the menu. If this doesn't work the sensor on the camera is most likely broken, and you should have the camera looked at by an authorized service technician. If the camera was purchased less than a year ago the repair would most likely be covered under manufacturers’ warranty. I hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Allan

Camera will take picture, but the picture is coming out black!!!! Help Please!!!

Dear vera11:

The symptoms you're describing sound like a classic case of having a faiiled CCD image sensor.

First try pressing the display (DISP) button on the back of your camera several times to see if your image returns at any time. One of the three display modes is "off" to preserve battery life. Your problem may be as simple as inadvertently pressing this button into the off mode.

If that doesn't work, try doing a reset and then removing your batteries from the camera for a few minutes, reinstalling them and turning the camera on to test the LCD screen.

If your screen is still black, but you can clearly see pictures taken previous to the problem, and you can clearly see the menu system when you press the MENU button, then you likely have a CCD sensor problem. Contact Canon Tech Support at 1-800-828-4040 to have the camera repaired.

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,
HeavyDLB
