Question about Dacor 24" Convection Microwave in Stainless Steel

1 Answer

I have a 24" dacor microwave and had problems with the latch closing. I had a service company come out and fix it and in the process of fixing it they blew two breakers in my house and now they tell me the circuit board is bad. Before they touched it I could cook as long as I held the door closed and up and now the machine goes on but I get no heat. Did they blow my circuit board when fixing it?

Honestly it sounds like it, if it worked before they touched it, then stopped after. I would find out if they fix problems they create

I have tried e-mailing the company and have not heard anything back. They left without billing me or asking for money so it is very strange

If there is a phone number try calling that, email them again or leave voicemail saying you will notify the better business bureau and do it if they still fail to respond. Worse comes to worse you're out a microwave, which gives you an excuse to buy a new one. Don't forget to research the brand and customer satisfaction first :)

SOURCE: heats but tray does not rotate...

This one does not have a turntable shutoff option, which is available most commonly on over the range models.

You likely have a bad turntable motor or turntable support (the 3-legged part with rollers).

If yours is a Dacor DMT2420, it is essentially a rebranded Sharp model R440DK/DW / R540DK/DW.

There was an issue with the original turntable motor on these Sharps.

The new Sharp turntable motor kit is part # RMOTDA264/KIT and they are available from Tritronics at http://www.wehaveparts.com

I cannot guarantee that this is the correct Sharp part for this Dacor, but I believe it is, based on the other parts being the same.

Another thing to be sure of is that your turntable support does not have a cracked coupler (the part that connects to the motor) and you need to be sure the legs are straight.

Sometimes heat and weight cause the legs to bend so that the coupler will no longer go down far enough to make contact with the motor shaft.

To fix these, I use a gas stove burner or torch to heat up the area where the legs connect to the hub, then I turn it upside down with a weight on the hub / coupler and leave it until it cools.

This straightens the legs back, and you can do this once or twice before you have to replace the support. But if the support is cracked or charred, it needs to be replaced.

The Sharp turntable support part number is FROLPB025MRK0 and it's also available from Tritronics.

If you don't want to take the chance, the Dacor part numbers are:

66245 motor Ref # 1-11
66184 support Ref # 6-3

But it will depend on your supplier as to whether these are original parts prone to failure or the new and improved parts.

You can order the Dacor parts from sources listed here:

SOURCE: Dacor DMO24 microwave oven door stuck

What usually breaks is the door open lever.

On an over-the-range model, only the control panel needs to be removed. Please unplug the oven first.

If you or someone you know wants to look into this, we have critical safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

Once it is apart, you'll be able to see how the door open button would press against the door open lever, which would then lift up against the door latch heads (hook-like projections on the door) and the door should open.

Dacors are made by Sharp, and one of these service manuals below may help you.

Usually the spring inside the door has broken or come of the plastic tabs it is connected to. To fix requires you to take the door apart - not a job for amatures.

Hello! In searching the internet for answers, I found this great site . I have a Dacor Microwave that needs repair--It orignally was manufactured in 1999, and it's Model number DMO24B which is now...

Door catches.

One of the latches may be damaged or misaligned and is not lifting the other latch clear of the housing. Remove from any power source, remove the cover of the cabinet. Slacken off the clamp mechanism and ease the clamp over the guide to allow the door to open. When a new door lever is in place, the door may be easily adjusted by slackening off the screws that clamp the door catch/actuators in place whilst holding the door closed and then tightening the screws. The rear of the door may be adjusted by slackening the lower door hinge screws and adjusting as required.

That is the easy bit. The display will require replacing as there is no fix for that but will be a lot cheaper than a new microwave!
I hope that helps.

It sounds like a sticky door switch. There are several switches operated by the door latches to keep the oven from operating with the door open. It's possible someone got a little too rough when closing the door, which can cause misadjustment.

Since the oven is so new it will still be under warranty, though. Why not let GE fix it? You just need to tell them it's not working properly. First call the retailer where you purchased the oven. If they arranged installation they probably also handle service. Otherwise you can contact GE's customer service as instructed in your owner's manual to find out how to handle the repair.
