Fridge gets cold air from freezer to cool it. Your freezer is fine but not enough cold air is getting into fridge compartment. U have some dampers or louvers that direct air flow to fridge and if they are not set properly cooling will not be adequate. Check those out.

SOURCE: GE side by side. Top shelf in fridge warm. bottom

Hi, I'm Mark.
Check the position of the two controls at the top of the unit inside the fresh food compartment. SET BOTH controls to the 12 o'clock position. Wait about a hour, then check temperatures. Then wait another hour and check temperatures again. Record the values on a piece of paper. When you do check fridge temperatures, do so quickly as the compartments become warm just a few seconds after the doors are opened. Please let me know what happens to the fresh food readings.
Thanks, Best Regards,
Mark

Hi

First use a multi-meter to test the compressor. For that you have to unplug the refrigerator and remove the start relay off of the side of the compressor. Go to the single pin on the compressor and check to one of the pins that are side by side on the compressor. The run winding will read 1-5 ohms resistance. Then stay on the single pin and go to the other pin. The start winding will read 3-11 ohms resistance. If your readings are out of these ranges, then you have a bad compressor. If they are within these ranges, then you have a bad relay overload.
However there are various reasons to this no cooling issue. Please check this helpful links to get an in-depth idea about why the refrigerator stopped cooling. It will help you troubleshoot your issue:-

SOURCE: GE Profile fridge: freezer is

Hello, welcome to FixYa.

I understand based on your post you have a GE profile PFS22MIS fridge not cooling in the fridge (upper cabinet) section, correct ?.

It is possible the problem is related to the condensor fan, but not likely. The difference with these fridges and many others (especially the older fridges) is the condensor fan does not run all the time. Instead the control board at the back (pcb) tells it when to run and at what rpm to run as well, it is a variable speed fan motor...and may in fact not run at all at periods.

The one thing I'd suggest you inspect is the back wall of the freezer. You mentioned the evaporator fan motor is operating, correct ? Is there any frost build up on the back wall of the freezer section, or if not visible have you removed the back wall of the freezer ?

I will need to watch for your reply before going forward. I hope you can appreciate there are so many variables since the fridge has many factors controlling air flow which in turn determine what the possible problem and solution will be.

Sounds to me it is a damper or blocked evaporator initially at least. Let me know what you find and we'll go from there.

Regards,

Macmarkus :)

Not sure if you are having problems with this part yet but we need to keep it in mind as a possible cause. I am leaning to a most likrly defrost heater listed as 230 and defrost thermostat listed as location 240 in the=> PCF23NGTCWW Freezer Section Parts

I may be wrong so I need you to look at the rear wall of your freezer and see if ice/snow is building up causing air flow to be restricted to the fresh food compartment. Photo HERE if yes you do see frost buildup the evaporator will look like this photo HERE I am leaving you a service manual here=> GE Refrigerator Technical Service Manual Follow with me in the service manual to see what is causing the air flow problem for eaxample a temperature sensor or problems with the air damper with fan, I am here if you have questions, Thanks Sea Breeze

I have a PFSS5PJXCSS French door with bottom freezer GE Profile refrigerator. Was making an awful noise and both fridge and freezer were warm. I opened back panel of freezer to find ice everywhere,...

Had similar problem, freezer was working fine, but fridge was warm, (68 degrees) It wasnt my damper, the mother board was fried, and so was the inverter board that told the compressor what to do, after having the inverter and two mother boards replaced.......I threw it out, biggest piece of ****, only three years old, and Sears would not stand behind it, even though I used their repairmen. I will never buy another GE product, or enter a Sears store again

My GE profile side by side refrigerator's temperature is not staying where I put it. It keeps popping to 31 degrees when I set it for 37 degrees. My food is freezing !!

It may need to defrost. Shut it off for 4-5 hours to let any accumulated ice to defrost and see what happens.

There also is a control that directs more cooling to the refridgerator or the freezer compartment. It may need to be readjusted. It will take 24 hours to stabilize.

Freezer is too cold (-14 degrees) and fridge is too warm (51 degrees). The freezer keeps gettting colder but the fridge part keeps getting warmer.

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

The temp sensor for the freezer may be reading the warm air in the fridge so is not cutting the compressor off.

Warm refrigerator compartment

There is a fan that blows the cold air down from the freezer to the fridge compartment. It is usually called a freezer fan. Most of them are behind the plastic lining in the freezer. I just noticed that your fridge is a side by side. I have never wored on a side by side but I imagine there is fan in them as well.

is you condenser fan runnig at all. look in the back ot the unit and if you have a cover plate hten you need to either put your hand close to the opening and feel if there is a draft or if ther is air being blown out that is warm. If not then the condenser fan may be toast.
