Question about Sony Grand WEGA KDF-42WE655 42" Rear Projection HDTV

3LCD Projection TV 2.5 years old displaying blue hue/blobs

Model: Sony KDF E50A102 months ago, blue hue appears at top of screen.Getting more intense over time. Now consistently has a blue irregular shaped spot on upper left corner and a long bluish one down the middle of the screen.  Sometimes has a noticeable "burn in" effect or an after image of one displayed earlier overlaying a current display. ie. words, shapes and all bluish.
help? I have the same problem but the blue cast is the bottom right corner and growing.
Seems ominous - appreciate any advice

    Thanks Abrsvcs,

It looks like it is the Light Engine - ouch. I might have to trash the TV unless I can find a cheaper way to fix it. Sony in Australia are less than helpful!

I would first try a new lamp. If the reflector portion of the lamp has any defects, it could show up this way as the light would not be uniform. The next possibility is a defective light engine. The engine portion if not field repairable and would need to be replaced. Try the lamp first and let us know what happens.

If you are in Australia, try posting a note to Robotek. He is located there and may be able to provide more info. I don't have access to the service info for models for your location.

Blue hue on left side and tiny blue dots on most of screen. The dots seem to dissapear and reappear if you look closely. I changed bulb about two months ago and it seemed to just get worse since then.

The blue hue on the side and dots are most likely a damaged (burnt light or optical light engine).

This is very common and you may want to contact Sony as there were programs for some models even if OUT OF WARRANTY.

The lamp in the set shines into a a L shaped engine with baffles and lens (red, green, and blue segments) and Blue is closest to the heat from the lamp and usually is the first place to get this type of damage.

I do not enjoy giving bad news but this is what I am sure is your problem.

If this information and a honest answer told you something you did not know rate this solution as very helpful as I do this here for free.

Your screen is bad or you have an alignment issue. Do you have a convergence feature in the menu or on the tv? Try it. If not, you need a repair. Contact the manufacturer for and authorized servicer.

Problem with sony 60" rear projection TV

Hi,
I'm afraid, it is problem of optical block unit (light engine) that produce picture by 3 lcds inbuilt, the blue lcd and its related uv filters become defective and causing this kind of blue hue on screen.
Complete optical unit block (light engine) will be replaced by qualified tech to get tv fixed, light engine is costly part so ask an estimate before sending tv in.
Thanks.

I have a KDF-55E2000 Sony Grand VVEGA Color Discoloration

Bad news: The issue can only be solved by replacing the optical block for the TV. This was a defect in the design of this TV. Replacing this part is very expensive (over $1000) and time consuming (need to take whole TV apart).

Good news: Sony extended the warranty for the optical block for this model. They are covering the cost of parts and labor for this TV. Contact Sony to have them refer you to a authorized service center near you.

Bright blue patch in center of screen.

The optical block is going bad. Contact Sony support and have your model and serial numbers handy. Sony sometimes warranties these even after the 1yr factory warranty.

Kf-42610 blue hue and blue dots on screen

Hi Guys

The Blue dots or discolouration you are seeing is due too the Blue LCD screen having cracked from excessive heat. This normally happens when you have a power failure while the Television was on. This obviously because the Blue LCD sits next to the lamp - the main cause of heat. The correct part number on the 60" is A-1086-952-A. It is very, very ,expensive.

Sorry to have been the bearer of bad news. Good luck : )
