Question about Apple iPod MA446LL/A MP3 Player
I'm having difficulties in installation of my one touch ipod 32 gig player. New to the "Apple" gang, I'm wondering if I have to have an apple computer to be operative.
In installing itunes 8.02, it creates the error message:
This ipod cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Then it asks to remove and reinstall the software, which does nothing.
Uninstall everything and start fresh. go to download.com find the newest edition of itunes. Install it. Plug the itouch up and see if it recognises it and if it does your golden!

You don't have to have an apple computer, but you might not have the right software, like you might have a software version older than windows 2000, or an older version of macintosh (mac for short). I would suggest looking into getting a newer software, maybe windows xp or vista. You can get an installation disc from a friend, or maybe a local retailer. If not, you can always go online and try to one there.

Gary- You don't need an Apple computer to run ITunes (all you need to use your IPod) imagine the limitations if only apple users could use the IPod.
Give it a try with another computer -if that is possible- update everything in your computer and then update Itunes to the latest version. That should do it, good luck!

You do need a apple computer to install an ipod.....maybe you downloaded the mac version instead of windows of itunes.....try downloading it again from itunes.com and then reinstall....should work fine thereafter

Are you going to (www.apple.com/itunes/download) to download the latest version of iTunes? Also I would suggest attempting the download with your firewall/anti-virus software disabled. As they can sometimes cause the itunes download to not complete or download with missing files. They are not viruses but sometimes the different softwares will think they are malicious. You do not have to own an apple computer to use an apple iPod. Just make sure that your Operating System on your PC is up to date an you should be good to go. If your not downloading iTunes version 220.127.116.11 then it's not the latest version. :)
